All my buddies are back in school so they don't have any time for anything.

I read half the internet. Does anyone know some interesting reads or other cool stuff? I'm completely at a loss.

I'm also reading all the books in our house, but Solzhenitsyn is a pretty heavy read so meh.

Went on a job-interview for outbound callcenter work but no succes. I earned a bit of cash by explaining Photoshop to my sister.

Also I'm getting some money from the local government. It's not much but at least I can buy some new clothes (I realised the last clothes I bought were some used jackets). Most of my stuff is actually pretty ragged as I only found out today.

On the freelance front no good either. Tried asking around if some local companies would like to get manuals made, I'm actually pretty good at the visual part of those. Nothing much yet though. Neutral

I already visited most job agencies... Crying or Very sad I also got a work-coach who is supposed to help me find a job, I check at the local job-database every day but as I said you either need a drivers license or live in the city.

If I'd just have that drivers license I'd nail a job. Most Taxi services here are craving for new drivers. You also get a car that only costs you Diesel outside of working time.

Do you have a plan for the type of work you want to do or are you just wanting a job? If you are just wanting a job then the job you get will probably not be very satisfying and wont last long. You need to decide what you like to do, what you can do and find where those things are available. Then go where you need to. Maybe you need to consider something like the military where they will train you in an area you like.

Well, I wanted to take out a year before I continue studies at a higher level, to make some money, and really, I don't mind any job, I'm willing to do everything and I'm already on a list for a cleaning job at a hospital. (Some of my friends work there).

The military here doesn't take anyone. It's all very professional. At that, I'm not fit enough and I got concentration problems so they'd rather have someone else who fits the bill better.

The thing is, that here up north it's hard to get work but I don't have the money to travel to the west or south. I'm also networking if I can get something more in art & design but so far no real luck either. It's proving harder then I thought.

If you are interested in a little free higher learning, google MIT Open Courseware. There are full classes of lectures for tons of classes. You can access them through iTunes via the iTunes University (along with a bnch of other school's classes) or through the MITOpen Courseware site. I am listening to the thermodynamics lectures during my commute for extra emphasis on the material. Or you could always get a world of warcraft account. I blew way too much time there (thank god I canceled my account).

OK, bad advice. Joining the US army is more difficult than I thought for a foreigner. You have to be in the US with a green card first. Service will set you back some years of your life and may even turn you to a different direction in career.
How about the French Foreign Legion? Ha ha , just joking.
Then there are some interesting volunteer groups like the Peace Corps that can give you something to do.

That's not such a dumb idea. I was a PCV (Guatemala/fish farming 1980-1983). While the Peace Corps per se requires U.S. citizenship, there are other private and church programs that are similar. The Dutch government might also have one.

I got to do meaningful work, learn a language, meet people, travel, have amoebic dysentery (three) times, witness (two) coup de etats, and try to work under martial law during a civil war. And never regretted it for a second.

Joining the US Army was one of the very best decisions I've ever made in my life, without question.....I enlisted during Viet Nam war, and to this day have never regretted anything about it...and you can take that to the bank !!

I'd like to keep my life, rather bored then WoW. Mr. Green

I went out yesterday. Beer, Cigars and a Whiskey with some of my friends whom I haven't seen in ages. Good times. Cool

I'm gonna see if I can still write myself into a school. The government has been changed as a coalition has finally formed, and they're gonna cut a lot of fundings. If I can get scholarship before this happens, I can still enjoy the funding, which makes my life a ton easyer.

Right now I'm feeling pretty good, even though this week didn't really accomplish anything. Razz Today I'm gonna gonna see if some job agencies have anything, and make a few phonecalls and see what's happening.

I also bought new pants.

And then there was that time when my job coach threw me a job offer in my lap I can't refuse. Shocked Got something pretty much along the lines of what I got my diploma for, and it's doable by train. I'm hoping for a job interview soon!
