OK. I'm new to this forum and questions like this probably get asked all too frequently. But I am looking for a good "field/target" sort of rifle in a PCP variety and have kind of narrowed things down to:
Evanix Renegade
Benjamin Marauder
Hale Storm (Air Venturi)

This probably gives you a good idea of my budget (in the $400 range, give or take). Any thoughts on these as to best or worst? Any other suggestions?

I just want something fun to shoot that I might use for some close range small game (rabbits, grouse) and have fun at home plinking some targets.

You might also consider a Benjamin-Sheridan Discovery.... It comes with a pump, fills to only 2000 psi, and is very accurate.... It'a also a lot lighter than your other choices.... As far as performance, it's got tons of power.... ~20 FPE in .177 and ~23 FPE in .22cal.... The limit for FT is 20 FPE in North America.... Power is tons for the game you mentioned....

If you are going to be using it for hunting, check the weights.... If you're like me, I'm not crazy about packing a 9-10 lb. gun with scope around all day....

Mid prise... Question

you listed the Marauder...They are at the bottom
of the PCP prise range...So I will assume that is
what you call Mid prise...
So The Marauder would be a good choice
in that range...but for a few $ more you can
have a Evanix Blizzard / Rainstorm or Windy City
Other than the silly name the windy city is a very
good gun...

Yeah, sorry. I didn't actually mean "mid-priced pcp" I was just kind of referring to the "price range" of pellet guns in general.

Obviously I'll go and check out the other Evanix offerings, but can you tell me in a nutshell why I'd want to spend more for the higher priced ones?

I went for the Marauder for a PCP with the same parameters. I like it and would reccomend one. I have no experience with the others you mention so I can't comment on them.

The repeat feature got me. I was ready to buy the Discovery when I saw that they were coming out with the repeating version in a few months (from that time). I was litteraly at a store ready to buy and saw the poster for the Marauder. I decided to wait and I'm glad I did. The ten shot magazine really makes a difference when hunting. It's accurate enough that I don't often need more than one shot per critter, but I prefer a full magazine to a full pocket and fumbling for reloads. The shrouded barrel to make it sooooooo quiet is icing on the cake. That again helps with small gaming. An air gun that is loud seems to make people more nervous. The neighbors know I'm shooting safely, but the fact that it's quiet makes it less threatening and that keeps them from getting nervous and complaining. It's just courteous to keep the noise down.

Hi..
The Marauder is NOT a repeter....If you have to make
a action "cocking" between pulling the trigger is not a true repeter.
A AR6 Evanix is a true repeter...keep pulling the trigger till the
mag is empty...NO other action required between shots..

no pete. a bolt is a repeater. you're talking semi auto.

pump guns, bolt guns and lever guns are all repeaters.
be it with a detachable mag/fixed or tubular.

the rule is the same with burners and airguns. Razz

I always considered a repeater to be anything that wasn't a single shot.... eg. a bolt action rifle with a clip or internal magazine.... a pump action shotgun with a tubular magazine.... etc.... Pull the trigger, work the action to load another round, and then pull the trigger again....

A gun that fires just by pulling the trigger for each shot I consider a semi-automatic.... and it can have any of the same types of magazines as above....

If you hold the trigger down and it fires shots continually.... that would be fully automatic (like a machine gun)....

Those are the terms as I learned them, anyway....

Wow. Didn't mean to get THAT started. I don't care about a "semi-auto" function. Just having a 10 shot capability without having to reload is all I care about. Where I live the grouse pretty much sit and watch you aim at them, so if I can hit a dime (or a grouse head) with one shot that's all that matters. And then plinking at targets at home will just be a bonus.

I think I might be ordering an M-rod for myself tonight. I am a devout Yankees fan and A-rod is one of my heros, so having an M-rod sounds like poetic justice to me! Smile

Thanks for all the help everyone! I'll let you know what my final decision is, and why, later.

One last quick one. Any advice on what scope to mount on it. I'm kind of thinking in the $100 to $150 range unless someone convinces me otherwise.

i'd go .25 mrod. way more power. i have the .22.....

silicon grease for it. (which i've never used, prolly my fault).

on the scope. 4-16x 50-56 mildot

mine is 4-16x40. i'd like a bigger AO.

you can see a squirrel/grouse eyeball clear
