It got here, after a helluva big mix-up, which we shall not go in to..I traded the Dominator even for a new-in-the-box AirArms S410, .22 FAC,bolt action Carbine....was "consumed " with the AS2250 project, but it's done finally,so now I can finally play with this newest toy
I know you guys have seen pix of all the fancy checquering(sp?) on the high-dollar guns with wood stocks, right?? Well, this new gun I got has that stuff all over it and man oh man!!! I opened the box up and started drooling...it looks way better in person (naturally) and I have to say it really is beautiful..first gun I've owned of this class...very detailed wood work and the bluing is as good as I've ever seen on any airgun.....appearance wise it getsA+ IMO.
Literature claims the weight to be 2.48kg, which is 5.4 pounds...mine weighs exactly 6.4 lbs....However. it IS the higher powered version ,and as such came from factory with full length barrel shroud, which could be why there's a difference in weight- length is within 1/2 inch of specs.....after the fiasco with all the Dominator's spec figures being WRONG , I've become much more aware of this sort of thing...they should NOT LIE about such things..but I imagine all manufacturer's do to some degree... Anyhow, the length was correct and it is easy to handle, short and lightweight. The barrel shroud does an excellent job and does away with the need for any other LDC device, which in turn keeps overall length at a minimum.
Put a little red dot scope on it , so that I could get it sighted in close enough so as to be able to shoot indoors and so some chrony testing..Gun is a 190 bar max fill, 181cc PCP, and comes with the needed adapter for filling....it is NOT a foster type fitting..
Using 15.9 JSB Exact Jumbo pellets, I shot 25 rounds over the chrony...the hi fps =861.99..26.2fpe
Lo fps =811.16..23.2 fpe.....Average velocity was 841.35 for the first 20 shots...at #21 fps dropped to 792 so from there down they don't count.....So, I have 20 hard hitting shots which is plenty for my squirrel hunting jaunts and such..There is an available larger (longer) airtube (242cc) that would give me at least 10 more hard shots and sells for a reasonable $80.00 from AirArms. I "MAY" do this modification later on, time will tell. Advertising specs claim "up to 24fpe"...this gun has produced a little over 26fpe, so in this case, it outperforms the claim, which would make any owner happy.
The trigger is the most awesome part of the gun..it is 2 way adjustable, via 3 different screws, and though I do not have a gauge to check it, I swear it can't be more than like 1 1/2 lbs of pull :DSOOOOO sweet and oh so smooth. The safety is a button built into the trigger blade and is very easily enagaged/disengaged....
Ammo magazine needed about an hours worth of work to really work correctly....The AAOC forum provided directions for a mod that has it operating so much more accurately and smoother than what it did from the factory..Seems a shame to spend that kind of money on something and have to immediately work on it to get proper performance...but I think this is true with most manufacturer's products today BTW..the latest version of this gun has a power adjuster and cocks via a side lever-it lists for $1050.00, but can be had for $956.00 at Pyramyd Air.).
So, have to decide on which scope to get- then on to accuracy testing....but I already know from all the reviews I 've read about these guns, that it will be a tack driver . I have not read one complaint from anywhere about the guns accuracy.
At this point ALL is good ..the gun is beautiful, it's a true carbine , the workmanship throughout is superb and I'm so happy with the trade I made.....worked out in the end , after a mellofahess Mr. Green

Matter of fact, I got a tin of the 18.1 Heavy free with the gun..I intend to do some indoor chrony testing with those and with 18.21 H&N Crow Magnums.........they are gonna have to be REALLY ACCURATE to outdo the 15.9's...that's the best 5 shot group I've ever shot at 25 yards....

So, after my standard 4 cups o' java, turned on the chrony and aired up my #1 best gun I've ever owned (that would be the AA S410) and tested some pellets for velocity and FPE..here's how it shot...
Crosman 14.3 HP 22 shots, hi=892, lo=825, hi fpe=25.2 lo fpe=21.5
JSB Jumbo 15.9 20 shots, hi=862 lo=811, hi fpe=26.2, lo fpe=23.2
JSB Jumbo Hvy 18.1, 22 shots, hi=825, lo=740 hi fpe=27.3, lo fpe=22.0

The Heavy pellets, though having a higher FPE number don't seem to feed as well thru the mag..The 15.9 work great, as do the Crosmans. BUT, I do have a single tray loader , which works fabulous BTW, and I can use it for hunting..Am going to get an RCMachine magazine also...I've read they are near PERFECT !! ANyhow, there's what my new toy is capable of...BTW, that's with 190bar fill, shooting down to 110 bar. Smile

Considering that as a carbine. it has the smallest available air reservoir 181cc, I'm happy with shot count and fpe output. Short tube /barrel keep weight and length down. I may however change to the Classic air tube, as it will fit and still be shorter than end of shorud..it would give about 60cc's more air.

those spreads are really big. Shocked the spreads on my marauder
are only 20ish fps across 22-24 shots.

Thanks, but that has no bearing on my first impression of shooting the AA S410..but just for the record, let me say that for the 14.3 pellets the spread is 7.5 %...for the 15.9 pellets spread is 6.0 % and for the 18.1 pellets spread is 10%...I know that Bob uses 5% max as his cut-off, but then again that's on regulated guns. My figures are for a non-regulated PCP. What those numbers equate to is no change in POI at 25 yards for first 30 shots using the 14.3 or 15.9 pellets...did not check with using the 18.1 pellets, as I doubt if I'll be using them much, if any.
I was posting a "review" of my new gun, not trying to compare it to any other gun...why not do some chrony testing and post all your results, then we can compare Mr. Green Mr. Green

i wasn't raggin on you pack. Rolling Eyes Shocked

for that expensive of a gun i thought the spreads would be tighter,
that's all. not looking to "compare".

i have done a lot of chrony testing with my mrod which is how i have
my figures. knowing that the 96% max gives the most accruacy
i'm confused as to why the spreads are so big.

Hmmm Sign Hippie Smoker

I use 5% spread for my "serious" shot strings on all my guns, regulated or not.... For your 15.9's, which were the tightest string.... I would throw out any shots under 819 fps.... which is 95% of the highest which was 862.... If that means you start at 180 Bar and stop at 120 Bar.... then that is what I would consider the length of the shot string.... I choose 5% as that produces what I consider to be acceptable vertical stringing at 50 yards.... With those particular pellets, the difference in calculate POI between 862 fps and 819 fps is 0.193".... ie less than 1 pellet diameter.... It also means less than 0.1" vertical spread from the average velocity which would be about 845 fps.... If that means you only get to count 18 shots instead of 22.... so be it....

If you count all shots within 10% if the peak.... ie all shots between 776 and 862 fps.... the vertical spread at 50 yards opens up to 0.419".... At 25 yards, however, it is only 0.209" which for most purposes would be fine.... From what I have seen, a lot of PCPs use the 10% range.... The Hatsan string posted in another thread is typical of that.... At 10% variation he got 33 shots.... If you cut the window to 5%.... the shot string drops to just 21 shots.... My stock Disco had 30 shots within 10%.... and 25 shots within 4%....

Sorry Sniper, I misunderstood, and I apologize Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed I do agree with you though on the spread..in fact I mentioned in an earlier post about the need for a regulator Mr. Green Mr. Green

Thanks Bob for the input..if you'll notice though, I only took 20 shots with the 15.9 pellets, 22shots with the other two. It still comes out to what you said-ie; 18 shots instead of 20. I was not aware of "stock " PCP guns being tuned (more or less) at the 10 % figure. If you've ever noticed, I always post my shot groups at 25 yards-very seldom @ 50...reason being that I live in what's called the "low country".It's swamps and pine trees, and pine trees, and pine trees.Very seldom will there be a clear shot at much over 25 yards....just too many trees at places I hunt. I should have known that there'd be a valid reason for you're using the 5% limit Smile Makes sense the way you've explained it and hence forth I'll use it ..that way I'll still have very little POI change from 25 to 50 yards. The gun actually is fine for the hunting I do, just as it is..but something inside me has already whispered to me about the longer airtube, and as long as it was torn down for that, might as well install a regulator. Sometimes I think I enjoy tinkering with them more than I do the shooting!!! Thanks again for theinfo...BTW-I now know why you're so partial to the 15.9 pellets...they do give a good solid "THWACK" Mr. Green

Actually I prefer the 18.1 gr. in any gun of 20 FPE and over.... I find them the most accurate and least affected by the wind....

Longer airtube? Shocked

Shouldn't you have gotten the Xtra-FAC?

Edit: By the way, the Bolt-Action ones in FAC are of some of the last series. They don't produce them anymore. All FAC-versions will come with the side-lever, and they are already hard to find. The 12 Fpe versions have an anti-tamper build in so you can't very well adapt them to a FAC version anymore. They do still come with the sidelevers.

The Bolt-action is prettier though. As good as the sidelever gets, there's just something more precious about a bolt-action.
