I read this on another forum....
| Quote: |
| In the FX Independence, the greater part of the barrel is smoothbore, with a comparatively short rifled section near the muzzle. Presumably the pellet arrives at the rifled section at very high velocity and starts rotating very suddenly - does this mean that the rifling has a progressive twist? If not, it would seem that that part of the skirt of the pellet that engages the rifled section could be stripped! So is the twist Progressive, or are the lands and grooves of progressive depth? Seems a trifle odd! It obviously works, but how. |
Anybody have any further information?....

Basic info on rifle, which mentions barrel- but doesn't really say alot about it: https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/FX%20Independence.htm
Not alot of info out there it seems- and unless someone has actually looked down/cut open a barrel on this rifle- it may all be BS.
If you look at virtually all FX airguns, they have traditionally had a Lothar-Walther choked barrel- so this idea of a "smooth twist" seems a bit funky and it means nothing on its own- more marketing than descriptive.
I would expect that, despite the obvious differences between airguns and powderburners, that if the concept were really workable- a high end firearms manufacturer would be utilizing such barrels- even if for a smaller market- i.e. target shooting or specific-purpose military applications. Does anyone know of this concept is being used/being used elsewhere? |
