Hi, I'm new in this board and, though I'm an old collector of firearms never paid much atention to air guns, now my son wants a good air rifle
someone recommended him to buy the side cocking type, and it sounds logic because a fixed barrel is better, it should be .22, and cost no more than 400 bucks-I've seen some ads of refurbished RWS at low prices but refurbished is a word I dont like-Pls guide me through this new world of airguns-
Not that I totally ignore about air guns, because I own the Hakim/Anschutz,a Haenel 33, , a Haenel 28 pistol,a Diana 30 a Mars and some other pieces , but they are definitely not fun for plinking-Thks Raúl |

Welcome from another Hakim owner.
What kind of shooting are you intending to do? |

| Hi Slavia, the rifle would be used in the garden, which is large enough to place a target at 50 mts, we dont intend to get into matches or serious competition, I want a good piece for fun and plinking- |

My 34 doesn't really have much problem hitting eggs at 50 yards.
You could then put a nice optic on it and have plenty of money left for pellets. |

Fritz is right in a general sense, in that you don't need to limit your choices to side or underlever cockers. There are good break-barrel guns out there, especially if paired with good optics.
I don't own one myself, but a lot of people agree with Fritz about the 34.
Are there any power restrictions where you live? |

| One thing to remember about side lever guns and that is the reach needed to cock them is less and so they work for shorter arms. |

Hi...
keep in mined if you are useing it for targets / plinking....
you don't need 1000fps...as the power comes up so
dose the recoil & twist..
Side levers & underlevers tend to be heavyer than brake barrel guns..
but $400 gives you quite a few options...
the Diana "RWS" 54 recoiless is a very sweet gun ,side lever "heavy" |

The 34 is my recommendation. The 54 is usually well over $400...
Either is an excellent choice. |

Maybe you could look into importing it by regular shipping, in stead of picking it up. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to export a gun from the USA like that without proper papers, but then again I'm not that well read in the subject at the moment. |

| Thks for all the info, about importing the gun , as it not a firearm the sale of the rifle in USA is no problem, even for tourists, at the airport the Xray guys arent a problem either, because its an air gun(I bought last year the old Smith Wesson that looks like the mod 41 and all went OK at the Miami Airport), introducing it to Argentina is just a matter of paying duties at the airport and the gun will cost much less than the similar imported by the RWS representation-FYI the local price for the mod 34 is US$ 700, if I brring it in I'll pay around US$ 200 and US$ 120 import duties, in all US$ 320 instead of US$ 700...Good deal !!!-Thks for your help |
