Squirrel issues at the bird feeder.
My mom wants to take the battle to the tree rats, 20 feet from the back door, and needs a tool to accomplish it.
She's not in the best health so weight is an issue as well as cocking effort on spring guns.
I'm pondering a single shot pistol, possibly .22, but I'm uneducated about airguns and need help finding the right direction.
I've (briefly) read of modifications to lessen noise or lighten trigger pull, and I'm willing and able if needed.
I was a gunsmith by trade before returning to school, so I'm comfortable with tinkering to achieve a desired result.
Characteristics I'm after:
-quiet
-easy to cock/load
-lightweight/compact
Any suggestions welcome, and thanks ahead of time for the advice! |

| crosman 2250. crosman 1077. there's a lot of CO2 rifles out there. She has no cocking, very little weight(About 4 lbs each w/o scope.) I think she wouldn't have any problems with the 2250 if she kept it indoors before she shoots in the colder months. If you want a pistol, I would not recommend the 2240 if she is not very strong. It's all steel and weighs about as much as a loaded 1911. the 2250 is basically the same as the 2240 pistol with a longer barrel and a skeleton stock. makes for a lightweight accurate easily aimable rifle with some nice dropping power from stock. There are literally thousands of modifications available for this gun/rifle combo. plus, if you go here>http://www.crosman.com/custom_store/ you will be able to build just about anything you want in a CO2 rifle/pistol. |

Welcome to AGH (and welcome your mother, too ).
1077 fits the bill nicely. Mother can easily work the magazine (pre-load these for her?), semi auto, accurate and powerful enough for 10 yard shooting. You could also recrown the barrel, and do some valve work to have it shoot 20-30 yards.
She might also be able to use a 22XX series. Especially with a 1399 stock, then you could likely do 20-30 yards off the bat. The 2250 is sold with a longer barrel and 1399 stock, which would be a great option.
The CO2 carts should work well in the Carolina climate. |

| If she isn't that strong a pistol shouldn't be tried because of holding and aiming, I love my 2250 and use it on squirrels all the time, good luck and welcome aboard |
