I'm looking for a new toy to play with and have been reading here for several days. I know that everyone has their own opinions about who makes a better gun and I would like to hear them.

I'm looking for something to plink with and possibly take a few squirrels and rabbits. I would prefer a .177 springer because I do not want to have to fool with compressed air. I would also like to stay around $200.

What I had originally considered was a Gamo whisper but have been looking at the CFX because it is a fixed barrel. Common sense tells me that a fixed barrel would have better accuracy over the years since the barrel and receiver never move away from each other.

Since reading here (and ignoring the Gamo vs boar ad) I have also been looking at a BAM 26-2 or a RWS 34.

I like the thoughts of being able to tune up the gun once I get it for accuracy and honestly, just because I like to play with my toys and take them apart.

Can y'all please shed some light on the pro's and con's of each of these?

What about the fixed barrel vs break barrel for longevity? I have a Crosman Phantom. Am I going to be looking at having issues after a few thousand shots with a worn pivot point?

RWS 34.

Snipper has a B26 IIRC and he likes it, but I'll take German over Chinese any day.

You should know that the cfx is a rather heavy rifle especially if you plan to shoot standing or carrying it around while hunting.

yes my b-26 is my favorite of my many springers.
never shot a d-34. for the reputation i'd get one
over others on your list.

the b-26 is-so i've read- luck of the draw. i got a good one.
they also do well with a tune/trigger job as i've read.

though my gamo was years of trouble free shooting
neither the gamo or bam is german.

with a gamo you need to change the trigger right away.

I've got the RWS 34 on the way from Airgun Depot.

It's a refurb, so that left enough cash for some glass to mount.

Now to plan for tuning.

I prefer low cost gun as they give room to improve them. B26 and Gamo both my preferred toy as they are lighter compare to most break barrel and decently accurate!
