I was digging around in a dusty corner of the basement and came across an uzi tucked in the corner, I put it to the side and kept up with the cleaning. I took the gun out in the light and was examining it and it needed a clip and a good cleaning. then looked down the barrel and it was solid about half the way down and then looked in the chamber and it was solid. It's an efing movie gun! well no target practice but it will scare the hell out of the salesman at the door |

An aftermarket barrel and chamber shouldn't cost too much.
Does the bolt function? |

Oooh, I know these stories!
At the end of the war, Germans would trade their guns for potatoes and such.
Once in a while an old farmer dies, and they find a k-98 with some caridges.
Best thing I heard was a box they found in Normandy or somewhere in a basement. All the rifles were stored in loads of fat grease and looked as new as when they were made. |

Very interesting you should mention that.I've heard about storing the guns in fat etc. My Grandfather never did talk much about Normandy.
I do know for a fact that he jumped in on the second night.I doubt he would have made it if he came in from the ocean on to the beach via amphibious carrier,as the enemy was waiting on the cliff tops..
From what I gather they jumped in from a height of less than 2000 feet in near pitch black darkness right on top of the enemy....intense.
I had also heard that he once ran convoy for General Patton himself... He only mentioned Normandy because I was doing a report on it in school. You would never know it by meeting him,as he was a sweet humble sort of guy. |

I've once heard from an old dutch army dude that they used a lard like substance. If you'd store it right, only the outsides would really harden and turn bad, but inside it would actually keep air and moist our of whatever you'd be storing. Doesn't work in warm countries either, or you gotta keep it cooled (like in a basement).
Of course, guns should be thoroughly cleaned after (very) long storage but I think that pretty much goes without saying.
A very good looking K-98 costs about as much as a decent used car, especially with all the right stamps. |

Right....The way I understand it the outer layer turned into a sort of waxy like substance. |

| In a somewhat related issue. The US army found thousands of the M1 rifle the ww2 solders used stashed in a warehouse someplace. They were gonna sell them off, but the anit gun crowed got wind, and the rifles ended up being destroyed... ain't that a female dog! |

Just heard it, neveractually confirmed it.
I wouldn't put my guns in lard, I'm sure even back then they had pretty good alternatives too. |
