Try holding the barrel at diffrent places to get a idea how much force will be required to cock it... I have a couple of guns with 12" "304mm" barrels they shoot realy well..But not much good for plinking cocking time after time gives yer arm a work out... PS..What gun are yer hacking up... NO NO NO....You will gain accuracy....Thats why yer cut them The pellet exits the barrel sooner so the recoil/twist & barrel rise has less time to efect the pellets flight..a pellet reachs its max fps with in the first 300mm of it travel... usely less infact So why do they make the barrels so long then 1...cocking force... 2...people like to see long barrels & think its makes more power & more accurite... 'build to the market" Co2 & PCP are a diffrent animal..they work on gas exspantion... don't try to compaire them with a spring gun.. pete 10" leaves you with a 8" barrel???   Posted: Mon Mar 29, 2010 8:35 am BBGun Bob Veteran Member Joined: 29 Oct 2007 Posts: 474 Location: Michigan I have chopped many a barrel.A hard wheel chop saw works fine. If I were you I would try 4" on the first cut,slip the barrel back on the action and try cocking it,if you want more go a 1' at a time from there,each time looking at it and trying it for cocking action. At some point a air rifles look mighty stupid with a stubby barrel. Here is a 4" chop on a Quest. Together We Can Answer Them ! !   Posted: Fri May 07, 2010 12:10 am Joe New Member Joined: 27 Apr 2010 Posts: 3 Cheap & dirty barrel chop: get a pipe cutter($4) and a big ball bearing, marble, whatever you can find that's harder than your barrel and about 3/4" diameter. The pipe cutter makes an accurate smooth cut a lot easier than a hacksaw. Also good for marking lines to cut with power tools. File and sand the new muzzle, then coat your ball bearing with a good layer of lapping compound(toothpaste works just as well) and roll it around in the bore with your palm till you have a crown.
