i am a farmer and am in the market for an air rifle to kill pest
birds with. was using the 12 gauge, but i think i can do a better job
with an air rifle. my 1st concern is accuracy. i want an accurate
rifle. next is power. i want good knock down power at 40-50yds. and
last is noise. the quieter the better. that way i dont scare potential
targets away. i am a deer hunter and a fair shot, but reading about
the springer type guns has me a lil spooked that i might not be a good
shot with one. budget is not a big deal, because i am going to make it
a tax write off, but dont want to spend a fortune. that being said i am considering the
benjamin trail np (or np xl) and the benjamin discovery. leaning
toward the discovery bc from my research it seems like it would be
easier to shoot. also, what scope should i put atop either rifle??would really appreciate your input. looking forward to hearing what you have to
say. thanks.

Disco all the way. Hook it up with a pcp setup, or even better an Argon filled K tank.

4-16x40AO Centerpoint scope. 2 Piece high rings.

You have one issue in there- noise.

The more powerful it is, the more noise it will make.

Based on your requirements, I think the Marauder would be the best best, it has noise reduction built-in and it also has a 10-shot magazine. The only problem? It's a PCP and you need access to a SCUBA tank or such to fill it (either that or spend alot of time pumping by hand).

If filling a reservoir is an issue, stick to rifles with built-in suppressors- i.e. couple models of Gamo, maybe the Co2 version of a Talon, and I'm sure there are few others people can post up.

A Disco is often compared to a .22 rimfire... I've never fired a 12ga, but I'm damn sure it's nowhere near the boom from a 12ga.

A .22 rimfire isn't that loud to begin with...

Federal "lightning" 40gr LRN at advertised 1264fps (although I used a 25" barrel)... not much of a bark. 'Dan at full power made more noise to me. Barely noticed the sonic crack of the bullets.

will go with the disco. would like the Marauder, but it is $100 more plus the pump. It will not be that big of a deal to pump it up as I will only be shooting it 15-20 times every evening. it has to be quieter that the 12ga. i can sacrifice a little noise for more power and accuracy. going to order it tonight. do you think i can find a better deal other than pyramid air?

also can search for the best pellets for this rifle...whats your reccomendation??

AFAIK Pyramyd has good deals, the cheapest is Sunshine Airguns, but they don't include the pump.

The disco is not more powerful, nor accurate than the Marauder, but will most certainly get the job done.

Getting it in .22 is a must. I suggest JSB 16gr, Beeman Kodiak (HN Barracuda), Crosman Premier Hollowpoints, and JSB 18gr.

went with the dicso and the Leapers 5th Gen 4-16x50AO Scope, high rings, $10 for 10 and they are gonna install the scope and zero it, which includes a plano rifle case.

ordered some Crosman Premier Hollowpoint, Beeman Crow-Magnum, and some Predator ballistic tips to get things started.
