Not only is it illegal to shoot a pellet rifle in my city, there is also a $105 fine for shooting starlings, and a fine for noise violations... No fun allowed in town. |

Totally illegal in NJ to fire your airgun in your backyard (considered discharging a firearm within city limits). There are exceptions, mostly if you live on a farm. Bottom line: on paper, firing my airgun in my back yard, I could be charged the same as if I was firing my 12 gauge shotgun in my back yard. Stupid? Yes...that's why I make sure my airguns are all quiet, and my neighbors are cool;)! |

I am lucky. My dad lives just outside the city limits, and most of his neightbors are old, so they don't mind me blasting starlings. They hate bird sh!t on their lincolns and cadillacs. lol THey also don't like the starlings running off the songbirds. |

In RI, all shooting is lumped together under one law. Technically shooting a BB gun is subject to the same laws as shooting a 30-06. How that's actually enforced is a completely different matter. As long as no one complains, most police understand that there is a significant difference between shooting an airgun and a high powered rifle, so if no one complains there is no problem. The law does give them the teeth to jam you up severely if you don't take "knock that off" at face value. |
