| IMO the question is really not answerable, since a scope is for long distance, iron sights can be for both but red dot is for close targets. Also you left out no sights for close shots. |

Elephants with a Howitzer?
I'm a fan of scopes and open sights, allthough with open sights I hang towards dioptre. |

| I use them all. It depends upon conditions - target movement, target size, lighting, contrast, range, etc. |

I like a telescopic sight the most. Not really into high powered ones, a 4-16 is good. Put it on 4 or 6 to shoot, and can use the higher mags to confirm hits on paper.
Red dots are almost my enemy. I hate how they are designed. Accuracy is based soley upon cheek weld and grip. If they came out with a sealed tube that has TWO adjustable dots in it, then I'd most certainly buy one. Then you could line up the dots for accurate shots. Once I get my Diana barrel welded up (this week, maybe some pics for ya's?) I'm going to try a red dot on it. We have some squirrels in the attic. Those furry bastards throw things down the stairs at my aunt. Last time it was a clock radio...
I have yet to get a hold of a good aperture sight, and notch rears just anger me. Although I do try my best to sight in the irons and leave them on the gun, as a backup. |
