Does anyone on the Forum list participate in air pistol postal matches?
I don't even have a pistol yet: but am thinking ahead!

Excuse my ignorance- but how does a postal pistol match work?
Could this not be improved via this wonderful world wide web thing?
If so- we have a few pistol people around here and could maybe look at that.
Any info or ideas? |

I copied those images to see how they would print.
Not too well as it turns out- they are out of proportion to print on a plain 8.5"x11" (or A4) size sheet. It's the graphic (i.e. .jpg) format that causes this.
How large should each of those be (horizontal and vertical dimensions)? I could re-do them as a Word or Adobe document that people can download and then just print so everyone 'plays' on the same board. To post the pictures is no big deal on size- as long as it was the correct size and shooting distance beforehand is all that really matters.
Also, do most people own a scanner these days? |

Definetly those PDF's work alot better! Thanks.
Anyone who's in Europe and uses metric paper (A4) want to download one of those .pdf's and see if they'll print?
Now- who's be interested in such a "competition" around here? And of those that are- who has access to a digital camera and a scanner to post their completed target(s)? |

All I know at this point is that I want to participate: once I get my air pstol and learn how to shoot it!
Eric, I think the way it operates is that a course of fire is decided on and announced. Everyone who wants to participate, does so "locally" - honor system - and sends in his score - ditto - and then the winners are announced.

One match I shot a few times was 10m silhouette for 2 shots each target in 20 minutes.
High score 80 {2pts in the black, 1pt touching black}
Another match I shot was 10m pistol @ 5 shots each target also in 20 minutes.
High score 300 {Score lowest ring cut}
The rifle was 1 shot each target in 10 minutes.
High score 80 {Score lowest ring cut, doubles are scored ZERO}
Divisions:
a}open sights
b}optics
c}springer
d}PCP / co2
Clearly PCP / co2 & optics has advantage over an open sight springer |

Well- it certainly sounds like a good idea. I'm willing to 'give it a go'!
My problem- I don't own an air pistol! Rifles are my thing, generally speaking. I also live in the snow-belt, so Co² pistols are a no-go in the winter months. Maybe I should pick up this cheap-o Marksman spring pistol I saw awhile back (it was like $25 or something absurd)- to test and to play with. Or I could maybe grab a Crosman 1377 or a 2289 (and take the rifle stock off) to play.
I'd say we could also do rifles- but let's start with pistols and see how that works out. It's also alot easier (I think anyways) for people to grab a pistol and a few pellets and go out the back door than a complete rifle set-up?
So who wants to be involved in this sort of thing? C'mon- post up if you are- we need at least 6 people to make it somewhat interesting! |

The matches can be shot with rifle too, just state the rifle and sights used.
For the sil matches, I shot an FWB 300 with diopter match sights at 10m indoors, and although my highest score was less than 30 it was pretty intense getting 40 shots on target in the 20 minute time limit. |

OK- if rifles vs. pistols at those distances don't concern anyone- that's no problem.
Maybe we need to write up a "firm" set of rules (I could maybe put that on a webpage, and the entries get put in the forum here somewhere). Any ideas as to what rules are the simplest to follow to start out with?
Now we just need a few more people! I think at least one of the guys in the UK would go for this- but they're all asleep right now. |

I'll have a go at Pistol Post or Rifle Post or anything Post, could be a bit of fun.
Mind you 23ib0d0n will be on his own with his long range Artillery.

Maybe he needs a "handicap" if he's gonna use that cannon of his. Everyone shoots at 10m/30ft- he gets to shoot at 100m/300ft! |

I sure want to participate! But as I said, I'm still trying to decide on my first air gun (pistol) purchase.
I told my wife "she can get it for me as a Christmas present." Dang! That's 3 1/2 months from now!
I see no reason why we couldn't do rifle and pistol: in separate matches, of course.
