So I went to Walmart today to grab some shotgun shells and .177 pellets.

I should point out that I'm a British immigrant to the USA and still have a pretty thick English accent.

Anyway, I walk over to sporting goods and pick up one of those big packs (125 rounds) of 12 gauge birdshot and a couple of tins of Crosman Premiers. I go to the sporting goods counter and pay for them...they don't ask any questions, ask to see any ID, anything.

On the way to the door, I realize it's been literally weeks since I've bought a game for my Xbox (my other main addiction), so I head over to electronics and get a game as well.

However, this time, despite the fact I'm 29 (and look quite a bit older thanks to my prematurely grey hair), the checkout girl asks to see my ID. Just to see what she'd say, I tell her I think I've left it at home... and she narrows her eyes at me, pointedly puts the the game to one side and tells me she can't possibly sell it to me without seeing some ID.

When I 'find' my ID, she then proceeds to make sure to tell me that it's an M-rated game and asks me if I'm buying it for a minor. I tell her no. She asks me if I'm sure. I tell her no again...and she tells me that even if I'm not buying it for a minor, I shouldn't allow minors to play it.

I asked her if it was ok for me to play it if a minor was in the same building as me, but not in the same room. She didn't laugh. She just looked at me like I was buying a massive cucumber, a jar of anal lube and a copy of High School Musical.

The funniest thing is this exact same thing happened the last time I bought ammo at Walmart, when no one batted an eyelid when I bought nearly 1000 22LR rounds, but carded me when I bought an R-rated movie.

Does anyone else think it's a little weird that Walmart doesn't care when an obvious (and anonymous) foreigner buys large quantities of ammo... but they damn well make sure no one buys a game or movie without getting a thorough background check?
