I'm back again with another question. I had posted a first question regarding my Haenel air pistol which you folks graciously helped answer. Now, I'm interested in selling it in your For Sale forum, but question my responsibility in shipping it. BATF is, not surprisingly, silent on anything having to do with airguns. So where do I look? It's about 70 years old and has a rifled barrel, if these come into play. Thanks again for any help in this matter, especially any info regarding international shipping should that situation arise.

depending on where you live and where you're possibly shipping to, i''d check laws.

BATF, DOJ and such agencies are notorious about setting up "sting" operations. remember..these agencies are all about control of firearms, explosives and related and pursue that control brutally, ruthlessly and relentlessly.

NEVER, ever, trust what you read on a forum about the BATF unless it THEIR website

There are only a few states with laws regarding airguns (i.e. they are restricted in some way)- Michigan, New York, New Jersey and I believe California (someone may want to add to this). There are no restrictions on shipping internationally- unless of course you try to ship to a country that is under an export embargo (few- I believe the list currently includes Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo).

Essentially, there are no "exit" controls on airguns- if someone from, say New Jersey or Michigan wants you to ship them an airgun, and they pay for it up-front- they are the ones that would typically have to deal with their local laws- not you. This is absolutely true on international shipments- even if you sent an airgun to another country where it is not legal for a citizen to own one without some sort of license (i.e. you send a 20fpe rifle to the U.K.)- the worst that can happen is that it is seized or is sent back to you from the foreign border services and someone expects to get the shipping money to return it (i.e. USPS)- thus if the buyer paid up front, you're out nothing.

Illinois has a clause in it's law that states "any air gun that has a velocity exceeding 700fps. must go through a licensed
firearms dealer! Once again, downstate sportsmen, suffering from, upstate ignorance. Welcome to Ilifornia! Crying or Very sad Illinois, home of the World Shooting Complex! PS. No guns allowed! Huh? Ron
