Hello, I just picked up a new vantage by remington and had a few questions for the experts.
First, the first 2 or 3 shots sounded much louder than subsequent ones. I'm wondering if it was oiled up and now it's not?

What kind of maintenance should I perform to keep the gun in optimum conditions?

Other comments?

Thanks in advance!

The reason it sounded louder with the first few shots is because it may have had protective oil in the barrel, and this would compress like a diesel engine and explode hopefully you haven’t done any damage to it.

I should give the bore a good clean with pull through patches, this will clean out any rubbish still in the bore, as for the rest of the gun just keep it clean and oiled and you should be ok.

BTW Welcome to AirGunHome.

Welcome squirrel!
Basically, just keep it from getting rusty. Use silicone based lubricants in the breech area if needed for a dry joint, and shoot the hell out of it. lol Never leave it cocked for more than a couple hours at a time, and have fun. I use lemon oil on my stocks to keep them clean and sealed. I'm used to using lemon oil on my guitars so I have it lying around anyway. Never fire it without a pellet in it because it can tear up the seals and piston in the gun. Other than that they are usually pretty maintenance free. Have fun!
