Pellet pistols are by far the best option for practice, $50 get about 50 45 acp rounds while that same $50 get you many hundreds of pellets. And Pellet guns are mutch quieter. Duh... My only trouble is choosing a pistol below the $200 mark. Some of my thoughts were: Benjamin hb17, Crosman 1377, Anics Black Bird, Avanti 717, or the Walther cp99.

I would go for a Crosman 1377, or 22xx series. For $200 you can do quite a bit to them.

First decide what you want to do with the pistol. Targets? Small vermin? Shooting at a bench in a basement range, or shooting in the fields or woods far from home. That should lead you toward a choise of powerplant. Once you have decided what you expect the gun to do, and what type of gun will do that; then do whatever you can to aford the best you can. Like you said in the original post, the price of ammo saves you a ton over time. Do your best to aply some of that savings up front and you will have saved yourself even more money by not having to upgrade in a year.

Case in point. I wanted a Discovery. I heard that they were coming out with a repeater in a year or so. I had to go further than I had originaly planned to get myself a Marauder when it finaly did come out. If I had got the Disco,I would have ended upgoing for a repeater later, costing more money in total.

Consider the Beeman P17/Marksman 2004, which is a Chinese clone of the more expensive HW 40/Beeman P3. Not very powerful, but accurate, has a great trigger, and all under $50.00 USD.

It can be modified:

Slavia, that looks like it weighs more than some rifles...

That would explain those Chairgun error messages telling me to enter the gravitational constant for the gun.

Oh, sure it doesn't have its own gravity?

What happened to the OP? This is going to go off topic soon... Rolling Eyes
