Well, I think this is a bit of a follow up to the Car Debate that's about motorcycles now.
And by the way, try and make reason count.
Some of the cars that absolutely catch my fancy:
Why? It's Square! Brilliant!
A whole different Era, a Whole different World.
You will die, driving one of these.
For Autobahn Racing.
It's just That Rock N' Roll Thing...
I know: Weird Proportions, but it's got something. I like the original non-sport versions better. They come in brown and apple green, with matching interior.
It's unforgivable that it's in here...
This holds a special place in my heart (1987)
It holds a special place in my Heart to...
Check out the Swedish Chick! Or something...
Had to put em in. I don't like the coupé though. |

Broom- I have to say- you are probably the only guy around with balls enough to post a Volvo wagon as a "dream car". |

Somehow, the picture didn't show up in my browser until I replied. It's a classic alright. The first car with a side-way-placed engine. Front wheel driver wasn't that common in those days either. Still, it's better off the track then on the track I suppose. A Fiat 500 Abarth could beat it on a circuit.
Did you know that a Ford Transit (That big transporter) was quite a capable rally car too?
I got a question: Is the Subaru Impreza a real Classic? Especially in comparison to the Quattro, that had a first.
Lately, Rally is less appealing to me, since the cars get to advanced. Remember those old Cosworths, Quattro's and Opel Mantas? Those where a dream to watch going. Especially sideways. |

The 1961-64 Ferrari 275P one of the finest Sport/Racing cars built.
I would have one myself but no one wants to sell.
I just read the criteria for this post and you have to qualify your post so this is how I qualify mine.
I won many slot car race meetings with one of these.

Hey Broom
OK, You might have noticed that I changed the Image on my last post, I found the old image whilst looking through Google Images, It was working when I found it but it must have messed it's self up overnight, Anyways the new one works properly now.
But even if some/most other rally cars can beat it, It's still fun to drive and amazing to see something so small go so fast off road!

Well IMO I don't think it really is, Maybe some of the older versions of it but definitely not some of the newer ones, Especially in comparison with the Quattro or the Cosworth, So IMO Nope not really!!
But that Ford Transit definitely doesn't look like it was meant for Rally Think of all the wind resistance!! And the front bumper would have to be a bit higher off the ground to do some of the courses around here, Same with the low sticking out suspension system pivots that you can see under the rear wheel in your Image.

Best look out for some of the classic Rally events in your area then, Those are always fun to go and watch!.

Hello, I live in motorcycle county. We have a dirt track and a grasstrack in the next village. International Racing leagues are held here. Grass-track racing is the big thing around these villages here. The next Province holds home to the TT Circuit Assen, and some of you also know the Zandvoort Circuit.
And about that Transit. Well, it's hardly a legend, that new transit. I tried to find pictures of the old once.. I can swear I've seen an old 80's Transit winning from Mini's on the dirt. Don't asking me how, but they seemed to have pulled it off once or twice, a long time ago. It wasn't getaway van number one in the UK for nothing. To me, the old one is a legend. Not on my list of wannahaves though.
Car-Rally events are scarce here in the North. One province lower though. Only Rally's they have here are old-timer rallys. Off course, that's also a lot of fun to watch.
That Ferarri is a nice car. It's mid-engined, right? I like the old mid-engined cars. But then, I like almost any old car. Except this one:
But then, Saab has always been producer of world famous designs of weird proportions and large empty plates. (See later versions, you'll see what I mean)

Ugly.
What is WRONG with this car... Apart from front-wheel drive.
And this one's got a Volvo engine, if I recall well. |

Hi Broom
Ah yes the JAS 39(A) Gripen by Saab:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JAS_39_Gripen
Power-plant: Volvo Aero RM12 afterburning turbofan:
Putting out 18,100 lbf of static thrust.
Also Al, Are you in that photo? Or are you the one taking it
Looks like a lot of fun! Shame it's not as popular these days

Heh heh, I can't wait to rig up my volvo with a turbo like that.
There is also an event called "de zwarte cross". The black cross. It's an event with dirt tracks, grass tracks and all sorts of drivers events, like crazy-racing, rally-cross, dirtbikes, etc. It's a big thing.
In our language "Crossen" (evolved from the word "to cross" or "crossing", as in cross country rally racing) is actually often used so for putting the pe'al to the me'al.
Allthough "scheuren" ("to tear up", or "tearing") has become more popular. In english, it would be something like "he's tearing trough the streets again". I think this is not very uncommon to say in english, right? Language practice and history ends here.
Now, there is another car that some of you might know or not:
http://www.dse.nl/fototmp/daf/Rally%20cross%20/10-Jande%20Rooij-Valkenswaard__scaled_640.jpg
The DAF. This was a small dutch car, quite affordable and it had a very reliable automatic gearbox, called the "variomaat" or "variomatic" which was later taken over by Volvo as they took over the Dutch Auto Factory. Funny thing is that these cars are just as fast in forward as in reverse. We once had backdriving races for a decade or two. That's right, often in a "double feature race" where first they would race with old caravans and after that, they would pull out their little cars, put em in reverse and race with them.
It died out with the end of DAF being taken over by Volvo, leaving little place for small rear wheel driven cars... |

Ever since seeing one of these in a Bank many years ago I have wanted one. I literally turned my car around and drove back to the bank to have a better look! I couldn't believe my eyes,I thought it was the meanest looking car I had ever seen. When the owner told me it would do 230 MPH I sh!t my pants.
I know I will never be able to afford one but my dream of owning one of these beasts will never die!
