"It" being shoot my chronograph!

Didn't think I'd ever do it, but I wasn't paying full attention (again 'Tard ) and hit the casing immediately above and behind the rear sensor. Another half inch lower and I'd be buying a new sensor assembly or a new chronograph.

The pictures are a bit fuzzy (still need to get the new camera) and this is after I got the pliers out and bent it almost back to where it started without taking it apart. Didn't think of taking pictures until afterwards.

The pushed out part at the top of the pictures, towards the left. It's only about 1/8" pushed out at the moment- but started at a 1/2". Managed to knock the paint off that part as well.

Also fortunately, it was a low power shot that hit it (around 490fps) from about 6' away.

The message here? Don't shoot your tools! NoNoNo

Hi Eric
That could have cost you a packet, I should get some amour plate for the front of it.

Have you tried cronying a shot as normal, then moving the crony down the range to the target, re-taking the shot and seeing what the diffrence in fps is, I should think you would get some intresting results ?. I would try it myself but my crony sits on the end of the barrel.

I haven't done extensive testing with moving the chrony around- but a little bit just to see what differences might occur.

As the chronograph is only measuring velocity, not energy, the projectiles are losing velocity the farther they travel. There are formulas to determine actual losses of both velocity and energy over distance- but this involves knowing the ballistic coefficient of the projectile, its exact weight and other fairly detailed bits- and as of yet I haven't gone down that road.

It would be interesting to see in a more organized/structured manner how much velocity of lost from point (a) to point (b) and perhaps use this to judge if a given gun and projectile results in a shot that just falls off evenly and consistently, or sort of "arcs" through its path before dropping out.

One day I'm going to have to break out the "Chairgun" software and actually use it for something, not just as more harddrive space taken up with little use!

Hi Eric

I was paying attention during the thread when you bought your chrony, I was just hoping no one else was! Laughing
Guess you've spoilt it now though!

Speaking of spoilers (Not the car spoilers), That's not even my keyboard, Mines a black Dell keyboard, Though I have broken keys before on other keyboards, Ever tried shooting a keyboard? lots of mess to clear up after though!

Stevie Thumb Up!
