I have a beeman 1048, it's a .177 that is supposed to fire at 495 fps. Is there anyway to modify it to get closer to 1000 fps, the thing can barely go thru a plastic bottle as it is
Thanks for any help! |

I have never seen or heard from this Air Rifle before. It's not in the Blue Book either.... Sorry, can't help you hear.
I recon though, that you won't get much more power of a low powered rifle like that, for as far as I can find on the web. |

What pellets are you using?
Going to a lighter pellet may help increase velocities, but that alone won't get you in the 1000fps range.
Beeman makes nice stuff ...
Maybe it just needs a good cleaning or a tune-up?

| 1000fps is not possible, the platform is not designed for it- but maybe 750 is possible if you do all the work. |

Let's not forget they let other companies do the building for them.
Now that we've found it's a Norica, I guess we can state that it's not a rifle ment for power. It's a rifle ment for people who just begin shooting airguns. |

I gathered by the other responses ....
Was this always the case?
I owned a couple Beeman guns (Tempest and a P1) many years ago (25+ years ago maybe?).
I remember both being excellent guns at that time.
Then again .... I was pretty young.

I assume you're in Canada Greg? Which is likely why you have your hands on a 495fps model...
IIRC you need the licensing and permits for a powderburner to have an airgun that does over 500fps. So if you are in an area with regulations like that, you should definitely contact the piggy patrol before attempting to get the rifle shooting faster. |

For the sake of history/educational effect- Beeman is now owned by the Marksman Company (yes, the really really low-end WalMart product line) and has been for a number of years.
Beeman has never done any real manufacturing, just re-packaging/re-naming of other products.
It's higher-end rifles are all German-made units from Weihrauch and are very good. It's lower-end stuff used to be made in Spain, but a few years ago this got shifted to China and I believe in a couple of guns, Turkey. The longer Beeman and Marksman are the same company, the more Beeman's product line seems to move down-market.
So, depending on the age of one of the lower-end products like the 1048, it may have been made in either Spain or China, depending on its age. Virtually all of the 1048's made in thethe last 2-3 years have come from China.
Don't get me wrong, most of the "Beeman" labelled product, even the made in China items will shoot fairly accurately, but upgrading is complicated and parts are not available for them from Beeman/Marksman. |

I just looked it up and found this ...
"On April 1, 1993, the Beeman company was purchased by S/R Industries in Maryland. Soon after, the Beeman company was relocated to southern California near Marksman, S/R's other airgun division. In the ensuing years, the product lines have changed a bit, but Beeman Precision Airguns continues to proudly sell and service the R 1, which might be construed as the flagship of the company"
The Beeman guns I owned were purchased long before 1993.
If they never did any "real manufacturing", I wonder who made them?
