Last week the big brown truck stopped by(3:00pm)to drop off my
Russian IZH 61 as commonly called here.

I have my 10 meter shoot at my club every monday nite starting @5:00PM.
I was both excited and rushed to get it cleaned up,and find some sort of scope to mount to this little critter.
I wiped her down with a rag and goo-gone,swabbed the bore a few times with same,and found a old TV view BSA 3/4 tube 3-7X20 scope I had laying around.(I just needed something quick and simple for testing!)
I gave the manual a quickie read,to figure out the magazine procedure,test fired a 5 round burst(7.0gr Hobbies) into my indoor trap and away I went.
It took awhile to get used to this short 4.5 lb.rifle shooting from prone position but it was coming in real nice.
I did not shim the scope just shot it the way I mounted it.
Not the best I could do either but I was in a hurry!
The first 5 shots were 3" high and 1/2" to the right.
After a few mags full I pretty much got it to the bull.
Groups were about 1/2" but I knew a new barrel has to get seasoned/leaded a little.
I would say after about 50 shots the poi was starting to close up but still had a random 1" flyer.
I didn't mess with the trigger YET but it is acceptable(maybe 2.0lbs) right out of the box.Quite a bit of travel for me but what the hey this can be fixed.
I haven't chronyed it yet I wanted to let the parts get to know each other before a test like this.
My plan is to run a few hundred pellets thru it,throw a few thru the chrony then lube tune it.
It seems to be shooting factory spec's from the sound of it compared to other 10 meter guns that were on both sides of me.
My opinion is this little Blackie can be very addicting for both plinking and target shooting.It is nice to just cock and shoot for a change.(5 shots)
I think a lube tune and crown check is in order and will surly improve this air gun.It seems to index just fine,and I really think it can be made to shoot much better than right out of the box.
Would I buy another??? Yes I would ! Can it be improved ? By all means! And would I recommend it to a fellow air-gunner? YES.
You no longer get a spare spring or seal,2 magazines are supplied,a cleaning rod and the manual thats it.
I think for $100 and some change you get a $1000 dollars worth of fun shooting this accurate little Russian rifle.

I've shot one of these too. They are quite fun indeed. Someone made a PCP out of it. Mr. Green

I've got a M60 IZH. It's the single shot version of the same gun. I removed the rear blade sight,and installed a rear apture sight. Man what a diffrence! Smile

It's hard to put it down,and shoots way more accurate than it should.Ron
