Air Arms S400 Classic 12 Fpe + Gamo 2.5 x 20 scope.
Air Arms is a quality brand. You pay a load extra, but what you get is a LOT. Basically you don't ever pay to much for these. That is, if you are going for the standard version, particularly this one.
To put the pricing in perspective (as prices are over here, for the new thing):
S400 Classic 12 Fpe = $ 650
S410 Classic 12 Fpe Carbine with Walnut Stock $ 1 582
We can state that you're paying to much for the second one.
I can say I haven't payed to much for mine. I paid $ 560 for a used one, which was pretty much in mint condition. I'm lucky, so this doesn't mean that IF you want one, you will get a better (or a worse) deal.
Cocking is smooth. The handle is to short to my taste, but that's because I like them long, and a longer bolt would probably put more strain on the system. Flip up, pull, insert pellet in the tray, return the bolt into it's resting position and you're ready to go.
The trigger has a brilliant safety, built into the trigger. It's not automatic, and if you don't know, you might have trouble figuring out how it works. You can push a small little cylinder (located reasonably high in the trigger) from one side to the other and you're ready to go!
Trigger pull is adjustable. I think it's fine as it is now, but I'll put a screwdriver in there and see what happens.
Uncocking the rifle can be a bit of a fiddle: Pull back the bolt and pull the trigger. Sounds easy, but in this position, the bolt is placed as far from the trigger as it can get. Still, with a little practice, no trouble.
Pumping is not fun. Getting it to 200 bar is a pain in the a$$. I have to put my weight on it, and I'm not that light a fellow (196 pounds). I haven't counted the pumps, and you can hugely cut back on pumps if you don't go below a 100 bar. Definately gonna need a tank later. If I can't kill the urge of shooting, I'll pump.
Here's a chrono session. For plinking, over 155 shots.
I'll add more later, I'm still lazy.
If you wish to know, google has an excellent conversion from BAR to PSI and Meter to Feet.

Sure.
Just had a problem though. I slipped while carrying the thing. The lil' patch of rosewood on the grip is damaged... |

Looks like it peaked at 241 m/s?.... If so, then 96% of that would be 231 m/s and you got about 125 shots between those two numbers.... starting at about 185 bar and shooting down to about 95 bar....

More from 190 to 90. Just to make sure, I won't go below a 100, also safes a few pumps, which is good.
For those who are interested, the Carbine does about 25% less shots. |

You mean a PCP should have more then 20 Fpe?
I'll gladly answer any questions concerning this one, by the way. |
