First off not sure if its a crow or a raven, all I know is it is HUGE!!
These sucks are so smart, but not smart enough to be afraid of cars.
For months I been walking and they would take off when I was 50 feet or more away.

Then I got smart, drive about a mile into the desert, away from all roads and houses and spotted 3.
This one was shot from about 40 feet .
Took one shot to down him, then 2 more shots to finish him off.
Here are some pics.

Nicely done!!!! I have a 500acre cornfield behind my house and these nasty MFers are all over the place. They eat my sunflowers and a few other choice garden plants. What type of rifle is that?

NEVERMIND: SEE THE LOGO! LOL

I sit in the cap of my truck and shoot out the side windows at the wily squirrels that I can't stalk

The beak looks more like an American Crow:

Sorry to rain on your parade - unfortunately, airguns aren't legal for crows in California. Neither for depredation (section 472) nor for hunting in season (section 485):

IDK looks like a raven to me,just check the site you posted.
Here is a close up shot of the beak.

# The bill of a Common Raven is larger and heavier, and has a less obvious downward curve—the raven’s upper bill does curve downward at the end but is more parallel for most of its length.
# A raven’s throat feathers look shaggy and fluffed out, a feature best seen from the side, in a perched bird.

i never shoot birds. it's funny though how airguns are marketed towards small game which would be illegal.

i hope rats are fair game. Twisted Evil

not that i would care anyway... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I stand corrected. Since it is a raven, it shouldn't be taken in California, period. It's not listed as a game bird in §300 Title 14, CCR, nor is it listed as a non-game bird in §472 (a-d), nor is it allowable in the depredation rules of §472d or §485, so:

"§472. General Provisions.
Except as otherwise provided in Sections 478 and 485 and subsections (a) through (d) below, nongame birds and mammals may not be taken."

Midichlorian, just remember that it is legal to shoot any animal if it is in defense of yourself or another person. I'm sure that no one was around you to say otherwise, so just confirm with us that it was indeed trying to attack you, and then naysayers like Slavia can stfu about it.

Sorry, but I REALLY get tired of the "you can't shoot that crowd" in the hunting forums.

No, they are being the neighbor that sticks his head over the fence and says "You can't do that!" because they want to be a sanctimonious a-hole, or pretend that they are some sort of knowlegeable authority figure.

Thanks for posting the closeup of the beak... no question, that is a Raven.... Personally, I don't give a rat's a$$ what you do.... but by posting that "such and such a bird/animal" is protected (or at least not on the list of species that you are allowed to hunt).... my intention is to educate people about what is and is not allowed.... Cool

Roger, since the OP stated that he drove a mile into the desert and shot the bird from the safety of his car, one can assume the bird was not attacking him.... Again, I don't give a f#$k what you do personally, but don't EVER assume you know my motives.... Your statement that:

is totally out of place under the circumstances.... I had no knowledge of the laws of California (but Slavia has filled that in).... I simply stated that shooting a Raven in BC is not allowed.... I am absolutely NOT interested in a flame war, and will be quite content to sit back and laugh if you continue your rant on this subject.... Rolling Eyes

Well they are to dam smart anyways, and too hard to kill.
This will probably be my last raven.

My Crosman g1 broke yesterday anyways.
I just sent it in to crosman to get replaced.
But god knows how long it will take for me to get it back.

At this time all the birds are safe from the Birdanator Crying or Very sad
