I'm trying to thin the starling "herd" ,but I am having trouble. I have 3 guns that I use, and I seem to shoot over the birds with each one. I have a Bejamin 397, a QB79, and a Crosman 1377. I am using Crosman premier pointed pellets. The distance I'm shooting is 15 yards from a screened in back porch. If I aim under the target I'm able to take a couple, but it's hard to judge how far below the bird to aim. All the shots I'm taking is with the bird on the ground and using open sights. I'm a GOOD shot with burners, but this is driving me crazy! Any help?

Try a paper target at 15 yards and adjust the rear sights untill you're happy with the results.

What he said,

Use the pellets that you are using on the birds. Hold the rifle exactly how you are holding when you aim at them and take 3 shots at a piece of paper with a black 1/2" dot in the center. Keep adjusting your rear site until you can hit the bulleye several times in a row. If you can't get it to work, try Crosman premier hollow point pellets, if those don't work perhaps there are some "issues" with the gun itself or your "hold"

With all 3 guns ?....simple...Is the angle you are shooting
steep..... trees / power lines etc ?.....
When shooting up or down aim LOW.....As the
efect of gravity is less as the angle incresses UP or DOWN
from level ... As that is where your guns are sited..for
level shots where gravity has its biggest efect on the pellets flight...

That would exsplaine why 3 diffrent guns have the same prob....
Thats where mill dot scopes come in handy

If you are shooting at a angle...Don't resite yer gun as it will have a simular prob when shooting flat...Just aim low and don't change yer pellets
as that won't help.....
