Just the fact that I'm concidering what I'm about to ask about just goes to show you, you just never know when one thing can lead to another and everything just clicks for you!

Not quite a year ago I came here looking for suggestions on how to improve my shooting skills in order to put food on the table. While things in some ways have gotten worse, I can for the first time honestly say I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. True I'm not out of the woods yet, but still it's there and getting closer.

Alot of this has to do with advice I have recieved from fellow forum members here and else where. One really good bit of advice was from a friend on another forum. He said during tough economical times such as we are going through now, the truely hardy will survive because they have the ambition to get things done. I concider myself to be one of these types of people. I don't look at the glass as being half empty, but rather half full.

As I've mentioned before, I have interests in welding and doing metal work. With interests that span into doing foundry work as well as some light machine work as well. Granted, I never went to school for these things. They just seem to keep landing themselvs in my lap, and I keep drinking the information up like a sponge.

And the more I concider this, I've been giving it great thought on working up to starting my own custom ag building buisness. I know I'm going out on a limb with this. But I have to at least give it a try. At the very least it will be a learning experience for me.

I'm not about to put all my eggs in one preverable basket though. I'm still taking on as many welding jobs as I can do with my lil mig welder can handle. I'm still going to look for a full time job. So on and so forth.

My questions, like the title of the thread states, has to go about staying legal. I live in one of those semi facist states that puts some rather stupid regulations on air guns. Such as anything over 700fps or larger then .177 in caliber requires an foid license to purchase. (Doesn't say anything about owning though).

But that's just my state. What does the fed conider a "fire arm"? Would I need an FFL in order to build ag's for sale? What other rules and/or regulations would I need to be either aware of or in compliance with in order to do this? (I'm actually thinking of getting the FFL anyways, because my local gunshop charges a small fortune for ordering ags. Example, a 2250xt is like $160!!!!)

Right now I'm just in the research phase of things. When it comes to doing buisiness related things, I like to be very organized and have everything worked out before I spend the first $1 on starting any project.

Jax

I know the AFT has been swallowed up into the behemoth of "homeland insecurity" but would giving them a call be good too?
