I got a rough idea where you have a tank in back (like a airforce gun) rifle that has a tubular magazine underneath. I suppose you would need to use solid slugs... it operates like a pump action shotgun.

As you push forward on the pump, it loads a pellet into the chamber. The pellet pushes past a trap door that seals- so air doesn't escape. At the same time it uses an internal rod to pull the hammer back.

On release the air goes through the transfer port into the chamber. Because of the sealed trap door it is a near straight path (good for efficiency right?).

On a side note: does anyone have a diagram of how an airforce valve works? I imagine you would need something like this inline system to be able to cock with the pump. Even without it would still be quite quick to load.

No no no... that actually adds air to the gun. I am using the pump as a method of cocking and loading. I see this mainly being used on a low power for fast plinking and on higher powers as a quick shooting hunter. Using it as a hunter would be really good for those guys who use pump action shotguns a lot, might just get a couple guys into airguns...

My vision is that you can quick pump it, and with a full stroke you loaded a pellet and are ready to shoot. The pump itself could have a safety on it (so it cannot be slid by accident) and then a trigger safety. The pump safety would be manually engaged and disengaged.

Isn't that what the Gladiator does?

thats exactly what that rifle does, pump it to chamber a pellet, fire, pump again, fire... just like a pump action shotgun. the pumping has nothing to do with adding air
