If the safety glasses have Z87.1 written on them they will be OSHA approved for occupational use (Z94.3 in Canada). It doesn't matter how much you paid for them; they are rated as meeting or exceeding that standard of performance. You can get Z87.1 rated safety glasses at Walmart for $4.00 USD.
Hearing protection is rated with a "NRR" (noise reduction rating) number. Ear muffs generally go up to about 30 decibels of noise reduction (the passive ones - not the active elecronic ones). Ear plugs reach the mid 30's, and together the plugs and muffs reach about 40 dB. I use ear muffs rated at 29 dB for shooting, because I like the "feel." At work I use 31 dB rated plugs because they don't feel so hot working indoors. |

| So basically I can go too walmart and get both for under 20 bucks. |
For safety glasses check both Walmart's sporting goods (shooting) section as well as the tool section.
My favorite ear muffs are Peltor H10's because the pads are comfortable. |
