So I NAILED a Dove for 40 feet,and went online looking for recipes.
Turns out there are really good eating.
Me and the wife watched a couple youtube videos on how to clean the bird,and my wife for up the nerve to do it.
Im so proud of her.
The tore apart bird.
The cleaned breast MMM!!! 
Im hoping to get a couple more before nights out.
The breast is in the freezer waiting for more 
I even shot video of my wife cleaning the bird,I just need to find out how to get the vid from my iphone to my pc..
Hopefully a vid will follow shortly.
She made it tutorial style showing everything on how to clean it.

I hit one of those feathery bastards with the .20 Sheridan once at about 20 yards... dropped like a rock and then when I went to retrieve it... that's when my jaw dropped.
The dove was facing towards me and the 14.3gr cylindrical pellet entered square in the chest. The breast bone had split into about 5 shards, looked like a well mushroomed hollowpoint, with guts spilled out. Then the pellet had some balls left over and went out the other side... severing the spinal cord on its way.
How did it taste? |

We didn`t cook it yet,im hoping to get at least one more before night fall.
Then we will try one of these recipes I found online. |

Looks like you almost did it right, although it is not necessary for the head to come off separate. It should stay attached to the spinal cord. After you take the wings off, you literally should rip the breast from the rest of the body. It takes some practice, but once you get it down, you can gut one in 90 seconds flat.
I just had a three dove dinner last night, and woke up hungry as hell. So don't expect one or two to fill you and your wife up. |

This is a white winged dove, not a mourning dove, but they are very similar. I was going to do "how to" video of me gutting it, but somehow I managed to shoot it not once, but twice. And from each side of it's body into each of its breast muscles. The meat would be so badly mangled it would make a bad, and bloody, example. Also, this bird looked darker than many of the others and even had white paint dried to its tail and wing feathers (which you can see in the pic). I won't eat any bird or animal that looks like it got into something.
And yes, this kill was courteous of my trusty Beretta CX4--now my favorite air rifle of them all...including my Talon! |

Yeah, it was actually a strange kill. With my first shot I hit it broad side at about 8 yards. The shot hit it through its wing into its breast muscle. It then flew up to the top of the fence a short distance away, but I could tell it took all its might just to do that. It sat up there about 15 yards out, blocked perfectly from my point of view by some leaves. I could barely make it out through the foliage, but amazingly enough, the bird was centered perfectly with a palm tree trunk in my neighbors yard directly behind it. I knew that I could fire on it again without worry about hitting their house. When I fired all I saw was a couple feathers fly up and the bird went over the fence into the front yard, dead on impact.
The first shot was on its left side, and the second was on its right side. You can actualy see both entry holes in each wing if you look carefully. Unfortunately it didn't hit wing bone, which allowed it to fly a short distance intially. I'm using Gamo Rockets too, which are now my favorite hunting pellets. I just chronied it and its still pushing them out there in the low 500 fps range. More than enough to kill at close range. |

| I think pretty much any .177 cal pellet traveling in the 500-600 fps range is going to be between 5-7 fpe. I'd say rockets are delivering about 6+ fpe out of the CX4. With birds, you should be fine with anything over 5 fpe at close range. |
