Well I got 2 Quails today.
One female (see pic) and one awesome looking HUGE male.

But I shot the male from way on top of a tree and when he came down he landed on a fence and bounced into my neighbor yard.
I was so pissed,but here is what he looked like.(just much plumper and a little more white)

NOTE: I migth be wrong about the famale being a Quail (but I was 1000% about the male)

I fined quail about the hardest bird to shoot...they hide to well and when yer see them its because they are flying off.....

Yeah they are fast as hell.
I got the female eating by my grape vine in my back yard,from 20 feet ,was a easy kill..

The male I heard churping for about 10 min before I seen him.
We was super high up my neighbors tree but the branch he was on was under my alley.
He was in the same spot for ever calling for a mate.

My wife was like "take the shot" so i did from probably 50 feet and it want down like a brick.
I was so mad it didn`t land in the ally where I can get to it.

The I go into use the phone and the fame I was about to gut got taken but this dam cat.

In fast this black alley cat has taken now 6 birds from me in 2 days (before I can get a pic and burry them)

But I would have ate the 2 Quails,they look like that have so much meat on their breasts.
I found a few tutorials on youtube for gutting then to get the breasts.

Lucky though I see a lot of Quails in Adelanto where I live.
Its only a matter of time before I get more.
Next couple I get my wifes friend Alen is going to come over and cook um.

that female quial ya got there isnt a quail at all, its a dove

Dove and quaill, that's good eaten right there. Make sure to season and marinate the quaill breast good if you do cook it. Otherwise it will taste like dry, bland chicken.

I think male and female gambel's quaill look very similar, inlcuding the flambouyant feather on their head. But the males are generally much bigger.

For a quaill, I would've jumped my neighbors fence. What I normally do is take my dog's red rubber ball with me if I have to climb over into my neighbor's property. I've found that a simple prop, serving no purpose but to show, is a good way to get yourself out of trouble. If for some reason they came out when I hopped over, I'd pull out the ball and just tell them it bounced over by mistake and I was retreiving it. The key to making that work though is to throw the bird carcass over the fence first. You don't want to be standing their with a dead bird in your hand while trespassing and have the neighbor see you. You gotta be slick about it.

i wanna hunt quial. i've never eaten one but quial eggs are damn good.

You went wrong by not taking action immediately after the bird fell over the fence. You went further wrong by involving your wife in your hunt.

Fyi midichlorian--You're not going to win a lot of popularity points on this forum by telling stories about missed shots on animals toting their young along side them.

But don't get me wrong, I still appreciate your zeal for airgun hunting and your posts with pictures.

You should leave the mom alone though, because you might lose 6 for 1 if you take out the mom. But if you wait a month, you'll have 6 new targets to aim at...AND the mom.

I saw 2 BABY cottontails on saturday. Cute little critters.

I almost STEPPED on the one in the tall grass, then it scurried off into the bushes. The other was on a dirt road hanging out with a couple robins, I was going to shoot it, but realized it wasn't far away, it was a baby.

I left them both so they can mature and breed. The same with all the dang squirrels that hang out around the poison ivy...

Normally, the young from smaller animals will stay in the nest/den until they are old enough to fend for themselves, so you won't normally see them. Shooting the young ones is a waste imho.
