Hi guys,
Just installed a new scope on my Ruger Airhawk. It is a Hammer's
3-9x power. The issue is that when sighting in at 7.5 yards my groups are 1.5 inches below the desired point of impact. The height dial is maxed out,so I can't raise the point of impact any further.I have heard that springers usually have a slight downward angle of the barrel, which is common from what I understand. The scope that came with the rifle I had no issues with,I just wanted to upgrade the scope. How do I correct this problem???

Welcome to the forum, Mark5043!

You might try an adjustable scope mount:

http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2007/07/bsa-adjustable-scope-mount.html

http://www.airgunsbbguns.com/GAMO_Scope_Mount_Medium_Adjusting_Base_1_44_mm_p/gamo-1pc.htm

7.5 yards is pretty close. You may want to zero at a longer range (say, 20-25 yards) and estimate the close shots.

Try this too, I just followed the steps with my gamo scope on my 2300. Worked great!

Simply install a shim under the scope in the rear ring.... about 0.017" will bring you to zero if the rings are 3" apart....

Since the rifle should be shooting a bit low at 7.5 yards anyway, any shim in the 0.015" to 0.020" range will get you within the adjustment range of your scope....

Yeah, scoping at 7.5 yards is pretty close. I'd say unless your targets are typically 7.5 yards in distance, zero the scope at 15-20 yards for distance shooting and do as Slavia mentioned and estimate the closer shots by shooting a little high. With practice this will feel natural.

Shimming the rear scope ring will do the job too as mentioned.

Also, how heavy are the pellets you're using? Could be a pointless question but if you're using the extra heavies and the rifle is underpowered the sight point will stay above strike point at lowest level. In other words the rifle is dropping a heavy pellet. I had that happen a few years ago with a rifle I "over estimated" the power on.

With a "average" scope setup (1.5" above the bore), shooting an "average" pellet (BC of 0.015) at 500 fps, a 7.5 yard zero is also a 25 yard zero....

Even at 1000 fps, with a 25 yard zero the pellet would only be 3/4" low at 7.5 yards....

I would say he has to shim or buy an adjustable mount.... I use shims, I'm a cheap bastage.... Rolling Eyes

Heh, in my town, we have a projectile law. You can NOT shoot anything beyond a toy dart gun with suction cups on the end.

So, shooting in my backyard is a no no. And I "never" shoot in my backyard. Embarassed

But I do have a 10M range in the basement. But no tree rats down there.
