Aluminum is a horrible metal to make airgun ammo out of. Go with standard lead.

Read the post in Accessories started by Sam___ (<--- numbers after his name, sorry Sam I forgot them). IIRC the title is "could you introduce me to some high quality pellets". We all went over what we want to see in a pellet design/production.

Back to metals:

Alum is very light and hard (compared to lead). This means high velocity (instability), it won't grab onto airgun rifling, ricochets (not that big of a problem), poor energy transfer (into game). The alum might have a better ballistic coefficient, but it's unlikely.

On the other hand... if you follow a Predator type design with a "ballistic" tip made of alum that may work nicely. Beware of patent issues doing so, however. You could try a reverse sabot design for large bores where the alum is encased in lead for various reasons.

I'll come up with more things once other members post and give me leads.
