| OK, no clue then. Could have been a flaw in the wood of course, but if it wasn't dropped or etc. I don't know. |

| From the photo... it looks like it cracked with the grain... Something allot of my hard wood furniture did when we moved back from Colorado... Something to do with the humidity changes... |

That is not an infrequent occurrence- it often happens in shipping when the box (not necessarily well insulated) gets kicked around. Look at it closely and picture an impact with misplaced or no insulation in the box- crack develops at the weakest/most flexible point- the pistol grip.
This is not to say it 'for sure' occurred in shipping, but chances are pretty good that's what started it but it took awhile to appear- perhaps because of humidity changes as Joe pointed out. |

| Another very real possibility is that the wood was not completely dry before it was shaped and finished. This, combined with natural internal stresses might account for the crack. |

This same thing happened with my Diana 350 when it was not completely and properly cocked, the barral snapped back and the crack occured. If it does not get repaired under warranty, you can fix it youself very effectively. First, remove the stock.
1-Cover the handle with masking tape or duct tape and
2- lay out a hole path with a straight edge, on the tape, from the heel of the handle part of the stock, through the handle , and to the base of the groove where the compression tube is nestled. Lay out lines on all sides of the handle, underside from the trigger guard to the heel, and top-side. Also lay out lines on the left and right sides of the handle. You will end up with 4 prominent, well laid out lines on the tape and these will guide you as you drill a 1/4" from the heel of the handle through to the base of the groove for the compression tube. THE LINES WILL HELP YOU AIM THE DRILL BIT accurately enough that you won't wreck the stock and end up where you want to.
3- I used a forstner bit to counterbore both ends of this hole through the handle, deep enough to hide the washers and nuts.
4- If you like, you can open the crack slightly to apply some gle, but it's not necessary
5- Fit a 1/4 bolt or threaded rod through the hole, tighten the nuts. The handle will be stronger than new and you may not even notice it was cracked to begin with.
6-you can fill the counterbored holes with plastic wood if you like but just for looks. |

roy/shakey,
thanks. i'll probably fix it myself. cobra said it only has a 30 day warranty . i know wood well. it's not a beeman so a fill spot won't bother me!! i can open it a little and will use some glue. i was impressed above all with the stock...... go figure ......
thanks |
