So this guy I work with just finalized an inheritance. He is (was) pretty poor, but he just got his check last night for, get this, $18,000. Not a million bucks, sure, but a nice little payday for doing nothing.

Anyway, today at work he gets a call from a customer like normal. I guess something happened and midway through the call he was disconnected. He told me what happened and said he was about to put through a sale for this guy and he hopes the guy calls back so he could get the sale commission instead of somebody else.

Well, no sooner than he tells me that, he gets up and walks away. Then, guess what? My phone rings! It's that customer again. And he wants to finish up the sale. I would've transfered him to my coworker but he wasn't in the room and I didn't know where he went. So I just helped the customer. Sure I was happy I got the sale, but that's part of the job.

Well, long story longer, my coworker comes back and finds out that I assisted the customer with the sale. He then started going off on me for it and went and told my boss on me! I didn't actually break any rules though. And furthermore, I didnt' even try to steal his sale. He wasn't there when the guy called back so he missed out. It's that simple.

The part that pisses me off about it is that this guy just got 18 THOUSAND dollars in the mail! And the sale commission was only $25! And I was like, "Dude, you would rather have $18,025 and me have NOTHING, than me have a small commission that I am entitled to?"

I could see him being mad he lost out on a sale, but to rat me out for it when I didn't do anything wrong? Faq-U

The $18,000 should have nothing to do with it! Of course he was foolish to let people know about his inheritance. To say that someone has less "right" to profit because of his wealth is a very communist way of thinking! You had a right to your commision and he was a wuss for bitchin' about it.

Who sang that a$$hole song? Was popular in bars a few years back, was a spoof of a popular country western song...

Kinda reminds me of this guy Roger!

Yeah, the guy pretty much has already ruined his reputation. My boss didn't even talk to me about it. It's a somewhat common issue here (sales grubbing--what we call it), and there is not much anyone can do about it.

I mean, I sort of see his point, but he has to realize that people are not going to bend over backwards to deprive themselves of money so that other people can get it instead. And certainly his 18k didn't make me feel sorry for him missing out on the sale.

If you hung up on the customer, I think your boss would be less happy. Wink

Presumably he wanted me to put the customer on hold and wait for him to return to his desk, then transfer the call to him. Of course, other customers would have to wait on hold to talk to me while I waited, which is bad. And I had no idea when he was returning.
