Hello all...Newbie here. Not new to airguns though. Ive owned mostly low end rifles and pistols and I am looking into getting a true 'adult' rifle for hunting. On a whim I purchased a Hammerli Titan from sports authority. Needless to say that was a mistake. Returned it, no harm no foul....Now I am looking at fixed barrel rifles preferably in .22 cal. I was convinced I would get the CFX but its no longer available in .22. Bam B40 and RWS 48 is now on the top of the list. Leaning more towards the B40 due to price of course (if I can find anyone who still sells them!) Did some searching online (rifles, reviews, pricing) and all I can say is I am a little overwhelmed!! Also was concidering a TF99, but reviews were not kind...Hence my dilema.

Any other rifles out there I should be considering? Obviously I am looking for good value for the money but I am open to spending a little more than the RWS 48 price.

Rifle will be used mostly for small game and rodents. Typical shots up to 20 yds occasionally beyond.

Preferably fixed barrel but not 100% opposed to breakbarrels. Also not ready for pcps and through with pumpers and CO2s.

Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Hi...Don't know if you can even get these over there never here anyone talk about them.
Mod 100/105 Hatsan.
I an't got one, But a couple of my mates have them
a mod 70 & 85 1.77 break barrels.
They are on a par with other guns in its class.

Kanyon- Sweet looking rifle...lovin the camo...cant find any website with prices or sells them for that matter. Do they sell under a different brand in the U.S.?

Kanyon- Ill check it out. I doubt the Webley model would be available in camo though. Thanks for the info. All guns I have not come across in my searches...

cw- B26 looks nice but I have read some bad reviews of this rifle. Some issues were a too high cheek piece and also so-so accuracy. Power seems to be there and the price is sweet, but I am leaning more towards a fixed barrel so a breakbarrel would have to be exceptional. Thanks though as I overlooked this model when researching the B40. Might make an excellent back-up gun.

Hm, that makes sense.

Cometa and Norica do look pretty different, also concerning the action of the rifles.

The AA TX200 is a brilliant hunting rifle, but if you can not afford the AA model get the Bam B40 not as good but still excellent, see B.B. Pelletiers report.

Alstone- Thanks for the welcome and the input. I must admit it is very hard to stray away from the TX but I just cant justify that price to myself. B40 seems to be the way to go for my situation. Being located in Hawaii my selection is limited without having to ship one here. Local shop carries a B40 but they want $460 without scope. Other brands carried are limited to mostly Gamo, Hammerli, Crosman, and of course the Wal-Mart has its own selection....

For an XS B-40, you might check with Mike Melick owner of Flying Dragon Air Rifles (located in Iowa). He goes through every rifle cleaning and properly lubing and ensures proper function before shipping. As I recall, he was selling the B-40 in a price range near $250. When I buy a B-40, I'll get mine through Mike.

Amigo- Thanks for the welcome. Just checked his website and sent him an email. Thanks for the info. Possible warranty issue? but I will discuss that with him. Although tempting, Im not real big on the 'tuning' game yet, more so looking for that 'out of the box' performance. I just want something that is powerful enough for hunting and is accurate. Might be interested in a trigger mod, if the stock trigger affects shooting the gun accurately, but I would rather not void the warranty as a 'just in case'. Speaking of warranties and therefore manufacturers, I am at a loss trying to figure out who manufactures the B40's now. I see and hear alot of 'so-and-so bought out so-and-so' and I know the B40 was offered by both Xisisco(sp) and Bam. Some sites I have seen had lead me to believe they are now Tech Force. Can anyone confirm?

You have discovered the confusing world of Chinese airguns.

The B40 is made by "BAM" ('Best Airgun Manufacturer') a company in China. Xisico is the import agent for BAM in North America (as well as the agent for the 'Industry Brand' company's airguns as well- Industry Brand makes the QB- and AR- designated guns). So, in North America a "Xisico/BAM B40" would be about right.

For people in the UK, a company called "SMK" is the agent for both BAM and Industry Brand- so the model numbers there are often referred to as an "SMK/BAM xxx" or "SMK xxx".

Sometimes there are variations of the Chinese product depending on which country/continent they are being sent- so, for example, a "Xisico" labeled product might be slightly different than the same model designation with the name "SMK" on it. I.e. a 'Xisico QB-78' could be slightly different than an 'SMK QB-78'. Not usually, but it does happen.

Have I made this any clearer- or am I just confusing everyone?

Having experienced a Chinese rifle why would even consider another?
By a good quality German rifle and you'll keep it for years.I have Diana Mdl.48 in .22 cal .Out of the box they are shooters,powerful and a trigger that is adjustable to you.I have since acquired another 48 .22 that was already tuned by Jim Maccari,now were talking a smooth as silk power house.I picked it up on Brads list for a mear $225 a year or so ago.
