Monday morning is garbage pickup, so I thought I'd blast a path to the street. I didn't feel like dragging the garbage/recycling down the driveway and back up the street to the pickup point.
Except it's so cold the primer bulb on the snowblower cracked and broke. Charlie's Hardware keeps them in stock, so no time for airgun mods today. Good thing, since the snow demons are dancing their sadistic war dance over the Rockies as we speak...
And another thing - it says you have to use the choke for cold starts. It's a snowblower! When are they not going to be cold starts? Is B&B going to clear a path to his car, or Joe to his shop?
But hey, things are looking up. It's breaking 0 Deg. F. now, so I can work on the thing outside. I remember reading something about gasoline fumes and pilot flames inside....
An old lady down the street gave us the snowblower. She's older now, and less vigorous, so she hires a neighbor kid to clear her sidewalks. The cleanout plug kept coming loose, so she replaced it with a broomhandle stub. Even wired it in place like an aviation or racecar mechanic. (She moved here from California on retirement, so maybe she's the "little old lady from Pasadena." "Parked in a rickety old garage is a brand new, shiny red super stock Toro.") So I'm driving a modded snowblower. Thought you guys could appreciate that.
So as you all sit listening to Bing Crosby sing about a white Christmas, my wish for you is that you feel the glow of the season, without the sting of the frostbite. Merry Christmas! |

Really puts it into perspective for me. Although I'm in the one other state (AZ) that is exempt from the snowy nightmare the rest of you guys are experiencing.
Yesterday morning I got up early and went to sit outside on my lawn chair just to take in the day. To my dismay the chair had a very thin hard layer of frost on it which was very disconcerting to me. That'd be about the extent of any inconvenience the cold weather will cause me out here. |

| It's a device that takes frozen water crystals and shoots it back up into the air where it came from. I've never seen or used one in these parts, but I hear that the people who live in snowy areas love it so much that they use this machine to blow the snow around so they can play with it more. |

The biggest problem I have with the cold weather... My Co2 guns don't like it... I could not hit a damn limb rat at 30 yards before he ran away laughing at me...  Limb Rat... |

Northerners are prone to a malady called SAD ("seasonal affective disorder"). This is partly due to being cooped up inside for months on end, and partly due to the shortened periods of daylight. We get all excited when it snows, and then dejected when the snow stops. A snowblower is a way of prolonging the high.
The trick is to blow the snow into the wind, so that it all comes back down on top of you (like a blizzard). I'll tell you, it's almost as good as root canal. Even better than a real blizzard - no fluffy flakes here. With a snowblower you get a fine powder of ice needles that swirl into any unbuttoned opening in your clothes.
Not that I need to worry. I got the primer bulb in, but it still won't start. There's fuel coming out the exhaust, so I'm looking at the plug next. |

This neighbor is well equipped - an 8 HP Briggs & Stratton (in use), a wimpy Toro for detail work, and a generator for the electric starts. I'm not sure if he knows that he's burying his truck:

I figured so, but I'll bet some others reading this thread don't know.

That's for charging the muffler bearings so that they don't freeze
in the winter. If they freeze you automatially have to change out
the summer air in the tires for winter air. |
