After looking for a new Air rifle here in Spain, I was left with the choise of a Gamo, another Gamo and believe it or not, another Gamo! So I went for a Gamo and after trawling the streets for hours on end, I ended up with a Gamo Maxima! Shocked

Now I know Gamo have been flamed for producing rubbish and their triggers are sh!t but I'm pretty pleased with this little number! Smile

After 500 pellets through the gun, I could hit a 50mm CTC 10 shot group standing at 25m which for me is good shooting! Admittedly, I can't do that all the time but I did it once so it counts! Anyway, after perooozing through a few sites, I was pleased to descover the Charliedetuna GTE III ( Rolling Eyes

I know but can't remember the last letter!) trigger drop in! So hopefully soon I will have an 18 flb Gamo Maxima with a good trigger!

Anyway, back to the plot! This gun has very few write ups and I was hoping some of you guys could throw some light on the subject! Is this gun based on a Hunter or a CFX or what! Any idea where it's made? Does BSA have something along these lines?

I have no Experience with the Maxima, but I should qualify something about "Gamo"- it is not all their products that are viewed as junk- only the units not being made in Spain appear to be mainly garbage.

From a purely cosmetic point-of-view, it appears to be the same mechanics as the Viper Max, Hunters and CFX/CFX Royal, which generally get positive reviews. The Shadows and the "numbered" rifles (i.e. the 400 and 610) seem to be the Gamo rifles that get the most negative comments.

Well it says 'Made in Spain' so maybe I've got a good one! Razz

Thought I'd stick up a few pics for your viewing pleasure! The scope is a Barska 3-12*50mm which gives a good clear view, I would have opted for one with a mil dot reticle but ended up with a 30/30 never the less, it's good enough for plinking at plastic soldiers and stuff!

Not sure I've ever seen a wood stock with rubber forearm pads, but it looks cool. I think in the states they call that model the "Hunter".

At first I thought those rubber bits were a bit of a gimmick but they give you a good reference for your hand placement so I'm quite pleased they're there! She's (are guns a she?) starting to settle in now. It was dieseling a bit through the first 400 or so shots but now only a little chuff of smoke when I break the barrel! Lots of people say to strip her down and clean her out but I'm going to let her have a few more tins before I start messing with the internals! There's no spring twang, she sounds clean when shot! I wouldn't mind testing her with a chrono ( Rolling Eyes

) to get an idea as to range adjustments, but only needs a new trigger and I think I'm fit to take on the Spanish in a few comps! Mr. Green

Roger, do you mean the Gamo Hunter 1250 or the 440. Because as far as I know the only hunter models are the Hunter 1250, which is called Hunter Extreme in the states.

I was pushing my luck with the first one! Don't think the missus would be too chuffed if I got another so soon! Maybe in a few months I'll test the waters again! Wink

I had a shot of the Hunter 1250 and it seemed to kick a bit! Quite a common gun over here! The owner said it was a b!tch to get tight groups with it which pushed me more towards the slightly less powerful Maxima! Still, it spits a .22 out at about 720fps (or so the adverts say!) compared to 900fps for the Hunter in .22! Smile
