It shouldn't be a total rip off, so i am not looking at FWB. I'm leaning towards a post Christmas purchase of the Avanti 887. With a follow up purchase of "The Edge" air rifle made by Air Force Arms in the spring. The 887 is $400ish, the "Edge" will be about $600ish... Right now I shoot the Avanti (Daisy) 753 and really like it! I did lot of research when i was in the market for an air pistol. somebody suggested me the Izzy 46M and i am not at all dissappointed. Now its the Rifle's turn, let me check the reviews on Daisy Avanti. If you do go with the Daisy Avanti line, I feel strongly that you would be happier with the 753 rather then the 853. It is more adult sized and has somewhat better/improved features. I do not think that the price between the two is that much different. I had purchased the 853 and found it to be too small for an adult. The 753 also seems to have a nicer sight, etc. But that is just me. The 887 is just the 753 with CO2 for power and a bit nicer stock. I also shoot the 46m and love mine too! John I have one concern though, CO2 has some effects on it if the temp falls correct? I was thinking not to go for CO2 since i live up north and we have pretty cold weather out here (I know you are in Michigan hehe). And for a guy like me, well, let's just say, it's enough gun for my needs! Honestly, I'm doing great, if I shoot the weekly competition once with my pistol and once with my rifle each week. Usually I don't have enough time for that even. I am very much excited to participate in competitions but you see nothing much is going on around in the state where i live in. There are no Airgun clubs to compete so.. and even google doesn't throw up anything if you try to search.. so ... well . I really like this concept of postal matches. What oil do you use to lubricate the barrel? I was going through the blogs at pyramydair.com and somebody suggested using 5W-30 motor oil for the barrel and crossman silicone chamber oil for the compression chamber.. was just wondering what do you use? I havn't cleaned the gun since i bought it (Oct, 2007), i might have shot around 250 pellets so far. Also do you use cleaning pellets? I wipe it down every time I shoot it with a soft rag soaked with WD-40. Other than that, I don't do anything else! : ( Maybe I should? I have had it for several years now and all is well! I hope!? Then like 2 or 3 dry ones to "clear it out". Works well! Honestly, I wonder if I keep my gun inside, away from moisture, etc. I wonder if it will ever rust? Or is rust just a fact, and every metal surface gets it eventually? Hmmmm, John Yeah that makes sense, i am planning to buy some cleaning pellets and start some basic maintenace. well i don't think any other metal except iron gets rust. Copper gets copper sulphide and oxides deposited on their surfaces but no other metals i guess. Thanks for the info though.
