Anyone ever tried using currently available barrels (i.e. Crosman 14" or 24") and steel breech kit on an older (Phase I or Phase II) 1377/1322 with the sliding breech loading system?
Crosman customer service claims this won't work- but the people on the phone are obviously young and not familiar with the older versions (pre-1991) of the pistol and seem to be almost guessing what is do-able and what is not.
Anyone try upgrading an older version with newer parts? |

At least the barrel setup is the same - I don't know if they had the same diameter.
You would have to get a matching bolt for the new breech, since the external collar probably wouldn't fit. And the new bolt would only open the breech end of the barrel - the older design cocking mechanism is entirely within the valve tube (that button in the back).
Instead of one screw holding together grip frame, valve tube, breech, and sight, there are two (to allow space for the cocking button).
I used to have one (1984) , but I've never compared it side-by-side with the new design.

Hmm- there are two bolts at the rear of the receiver and tube to hold things together on the newer 1377s as well- same parts numbers as those used on the Phase I&II guns.
Looking over your manual pics, the parts diagrams, and assuming the Crosman steel breech is used (comes with a bolt as well) and a newer barrel to match the breech- it looks like the only part that would need to be added would be some sort of spring behind the bolt to tension it a bit- a loose floppy bolt would bother me I think. The only other difference I see that may not even be relevant depending on what one wants, is the rear sight is a bit different- but even the newer sights need to be sanded down to fit the steel breech if it is being retained.
So basically, I think this will work- need to get my hands on a Phase I/II 1377 to verify for sure... |

| Got my hands on a Phase I/II 1322 the other day. The newer parts will fit on them (i.e. the 1377 or 2240 steel breech kit, longer barrels, etc.). Not sure why Crosman was claiming they would not work- I assume because the pistol would not then be "as it was" from the factory and/or their customer support people seem to be alot younger, and less familiar, with the older products. |

| Probably young (i.e., no institutional memory), plus it's easier to first say "no" than to later deal with a customer that was led down the wrong path. |
