I picked up a good deal on a brand new .177 caliber Quest 1000X from Dan O on another forum.$64.00 shipped.I want to use it for frogs and turtles with open sights out of a boat...
He mentioned to me he had bought a Quest that was always shooting to the left and had to shim his scope. After receiving my Quest from Dan and giving her a total tune and trigger job before even firing the rifle mine was doing the same thing!!! Left by 4 inches. It was in fact a new rifle with metal shavings imbedded in the piston seal(I replaced with a new one).I thought he might have switched rifles. But I could tell this rifle had never been fired and was still full of the famous brown Chinese gritty oil everywhere.
At 30 feet with the stock iron sights no matter where I moved my rear sight it would be hitting 4" to the left!! Now whats the problem?? I am out of left sight movement on the sight and still 4" to the left.Even after a re crown on both ends of the barrel.
I pulled off the breech/barrel assembly and set it up on a layout table square to the world, and did some measuring with a height gauge. After a few measurements I found the culprit! It seems that the boring jig on this run of Quest's was off a little. It had been bored at an angle through the breech(not square from front to rear). So when assembled and bolted up tight in the pivot point the barrel was canted to the left.
My Correction,,I left the breech pivot hole as is(not having a Mill),re centered my rear sight and wrapped the barrel with a piece of leather while mounted in the stock.I have a 5 ton press with 1 1/8 adjusting holes through it on both sides of 6 inch channel iron.
I removed the front sight and stuck the barrel with leather around it through 2 holes in the press about 6 inches deep on the barrel, and started gently bending the barrel to the right making sure the rifle was true to the world with a level. My first test shot showed a correction of about 2 inches to the right(barrel wants return to original position).Back in the press holes for another tweak. The second test fire was on the outside ring of the 1/2"bulls eye to the right at 4:00 o'clock. The rest of the corrections to POI were done with the iron sights.
So if any of you run in to this problem, and can not correct POI with your sights whether it be a scope or iron sights this should address and correct the issue.
Yes I did improve the rear spring guild with thrust washers not bearings.
And a word or warning : If you use 2 standard washers on both ends of the spring you will coil bind and not be able to cock your Quest.

Best Regards
Shoot often and always safe,

Hey Bob, Yep mine is the same. I haven't tried to correct it as the tweaking of the scope did the trick. just barely though as I am out of adjustment on my scope. The first scope I tried wouldn't even adjust far enough. Ok now I might have to send you my quest for the bend and fix.LOL. Good shooting BBGUNBOB.
Over and out,
Dan O

This has me very concerned. I was going to buy a quest 1000 so as to "retire" my 1077 from hunting. At $99, it wouldn't be a good deal if it consistantly shot that far left. Can this be traced to a specific lot or batch of rifles?

Thanks

Jax

I'm sure this issue can be traced to a specific batch/run of the product- the question is: Will Crosman know the batch/serial numbers and will they tell people? If they aren't recalling said problems, I don't know that they would do such a thing- or wait for us people out in cyber-space to do it for them.

Maybe Bob can provide some info from the 2 rifles he knows of and any details- i.e. where they were bought, serial numbers (or dates derived from them?)?

Mind-you a good barrel bending/adjustment might be a good idea on alot of rifles using a press and a level.

Good luck bob! I'm doing round #2 with a stuborn power steering pump in the morning.

Hmm, re-read the first post. You said this was a 1000x? How many different versions of the quest are there?

There are many versions of the same gun on the market:

Quest 800 (.22 cal)
Quest 1000 (.177 cal)
Quest 500 (Detuned Export rifle)
Phantom 1000 (.177 cal)
Phantom 500 (.22 cal Detuned export rifle)
Remington Summit
G1 Extreme
Tac-1
-anything with a 'X' in the model number only indicates it came with a scope- so anything could be an 'X' rifle- Quest 1000x, Phantom 1000x, Quest 800x, etc. etc.

and probably a couple others I'm forgetting.

Hi..I had one of those remingtion 1000fps pistol grip things..What a bit of C_ _ P
Took it out bunny shooting..Yer hit a bunny then he has a scratch hops of over the hill while muttering about pesky fla's.
Couldn"t get rid of it quick enough.

Hope they are not ALL like the one I had

Kanyon,

It wasn't until much later, I realized I actually ment Ruger. Not remmington. An Air Hawk Elite combo.

Hahaha! LOL! Sorry BBGun Bob and all. I haven't logged in in a few days.

First I haven't read the thread under this somewhat Title...ALL SHOOTING LEFT, just the Title. Well my instant thought/ logical reasoning ..."Adjust ur sights man".

Sorry, thought it might be humorous somewhat.

I better go read on now...LOL again sorry BBGun.
