I know that different kinds of pellets have different ballistics coefficients due to shape and weight distribution etc... but does anyone know what the BC of a round lead ball would be? It seems the BC would be the same regardless of the weight, is that right? If so, what is the BC of a round lead ball?
Thanks for your help in advance.

What I'm wondering is why you want to know. Round balls don't really do that well in Airguns, unless it's large calibers, and even then, I see less ball-like shapes going around.

Caliber makes a difference also. This chart lists Beeman Perfect Rounds at B.C.=0.014 and Daisy steel BB's at B.C.=0.009 ...
http://www.airgunexpo.com/airgundb/pelletbc.cfm

And this one lists a .445" lead ball at B.C.=0.063, with .535" at B.C.=0.075 ...

Thanks for your input, guys. Appreciate it.

I wanted to know, Broom, 'cause I just wanted to be able to compare the ball to different kinds of pellets. I would have thought the BC of a ball would be fairly good, but wow, was I off! The pellet with the best BC that I can find is the Beeman Kodiak and I use that a lot.

I was actually considering trying round balls, but after what you pointed me to, Slavia, I am scraping the whole idea and sticking to the Kodiaks. Thanks again to both of ya.

Thanks for the links thepaladin, just confirms my decision to skip the balls and stick to the Kodiaks. heh heh

cw, I use a Benji 392 here in the jungle. It spits out the Kodiaks at around 540 fps so gives me around 13.5 fp of muzzle energy. But since the BC is so high it retains the energy well. At 50 yds it still has about 9.5 fp of energy.

I've also been thinking about getting some JSB Exacts. They also have a good BC to retain energy, but since they are lighter, the trajectory will be flatter. What ya think?
