| on friday i got a package from Pyramid Air, containing a few new tins of pellets. amoung them, a couple tins of predators in .22. spent sat evening sighting them in @ 25 yards with my chinese beeman RS2. woke up before dawn this morning cause a puppy had a full bladder. made the coffee, put on some dark colored clothes and sat on the back deck scanning the fence line for the rats that come up out of the ditch back there. didnt have to wait very long.... out pops one of the bigger rats i've seen around here. he sticks to the fence line and halves the yard then stops to eat some spilled bird seed. i quietly cock and load the beeman with a predator, lean forward resting the back of my hand on the railing, aquire his nasty mug in the scope.... wait for him to turn so i have a nice profile shot... and squeeze.... the impact noise was as loud or louder then the shot itself!!!! nailed him at the base of his left ear.... and the was almost nothing left!!! that pellet at that range (15 yards) exploded his head!!! i'm SOLD on these pellets for my backyard rat shooting!!! |

| hahaha... i'm actually a vegetarian!! have been for almost 16 years now, ever since my "starving college days". not including the rats, i almost always have a neighbor that appreciates whatever game i happen to take on a hunt so it never goes to waste. the wife refuses to eat rodents... squirrels and rabbits included, but her father loves em! |

| let me clarify ... i didnt stop eating meat for moral issues or cause they have sad little faces.... when i was in college living in NYC, i couldnt afford much more than a box of rice and a can of beans, on weekends i would take the train upstate to visit my sister, and she doesnt eat meat either, so even there, i didnt have the option, and after a while it just became habit. i say that we have opposable thumbs and power of reason... therefore we are at the top of the food chain.. eat what you want, evolution gave us that right! |

It's the same way with soda and French fries for me... I just stopped and I can't stand them now... If I try to have some... they both make my stomach upset...
It's just too funny now when I go through a drive through and they try to sell me the meal with my sandwich... I still have to tell them no.. I do not want to super size my meal... after ordering the sandwich only... Kids...
Pretty much the only Junk food I am addicted to is jelly beans & M&Ms...
There is something about the green ones.... |

The Bible claimed so before Darwin did.
Anyway, is it really necessary to blow off an animals head? That sounds, to me, a lot like looking for red mist.
And on that bombshell, we went back on topic! |

| looking for the "red mist"? only if that was the intention, which it was not. it was an observation of the effects of that particular pellet at that range. had never used those pellets before. and i always try to take the things out with head shots. |

| I think a rat is the one animal that you DON'T have to worry about making a headshot on. A .22, even from a low powered pellet gun, is going to make a nasty end product at only 15 yards. I know what you mean about impact noise. Oddly enough, the impact on the prey often makes a noise that sounds like a gunshot, even when the springer is relatively quiet. |

I mostly ment that an exploding head isn't much of a clean kill. |

I think blowing up a rats head, isn't something to be that proud of, allthough it's not such a big deal. Pulling out the legs of a grasshopper is also not a big deal, I guess.
In regards to the pellet, are they cheaper then normal domed pellets, and aren't domed pellets more accurate?
It's just me preaching clean kills! If these pellets are efficient, accurate and affordable then it probably weighs up against the red mist. |

Dead Rat = Good Rat... any way you kill it.... It is still a pest...
Taking it's head clean off is more humaine than the wire traps that sometimes miss breaking their necks... or the glue traps that starve them to death...
A head shot IMO is a clean kill... |

please define "clean kill" then. i always went by the definition of instant or near instant death. |

| as for accuracy, for me, in my gun, i'm getting 1.5" groups. but i attribute that to my lack of expertise, honestly i'm not a very good shot, but improving all the time. |
