Morn'in shooters.

I am probably the new kid on this block so bare with me.

I just employed my "stash", Calela's points and a bit more. taking the leap in to the "adult" air rifle world.

The new shooter is a RWS model 52, complete with RWS "airgun 'C' Mount" and RWS 4X scope.

Now the the scope isn't great, when compared to my Leupolds, but should do for the targets and range I am presently working with.

The rifle seems like it will very well fill the bill in providing increased trigger time and allowing me to shoot in my 30X30 shop building.

The question comes along with the one piece "C" mount.

After centerfire mounts and rings over many years - recently past the big 65 mark - I am not sure what to think about this thing.

What I think is a problem is the fact that even with screws as tight as I can get them with the TINY allen screws, the scope is loose at the point where the mount attaches to the dove tailed rail mounted to the top of the rifles receiver.

If in fact this is not correct, where do I go from here.

Are there better, read solid, rings and mounts made for air rifles, and if so where do I find them?

I am afraid this thing is going to fall off the rifle.

It may sound daft Darrell but have you got the clamp plate upsidedown, as on some mounts the clamp is made for two diffrent size of dovetail and you reverse it to suite.

Thanks for the quick come back on the question.

Alstone, the mount looked correct when I un-packed and began putting things together. It was factory installed.

But from what I am reading and the link supplied by AirGun Eric, seems this is not a new problem.

I have already tried to make an order for the mount and rings,

Not getting any results, so will give the place a call.

It is very nice being able to now shoot most any time at home.

I live in a rural area, and have a couple of friends who have ranges on the land, fact is I need to head there this evening and do some testing and shoot'in with the centerfires, BUT sure is nice to just step out to the shop for some trigger time.

This RWS 52 is heavy, but then so is my main hunting rifle and my Clark Custom - Ruger 77-22. Therefore, the weight is about right for pre-season shoot'in.

Most of the Diana's could be considered a bit "heavy"- the newer plastic-stocked units and the "Classic" units like the 240s are lighter, but also not as rough/tough as the older "double digit" wood stocked rifles- ie. the '24' '48' '52' etc.

After following your link, I liked what I saw in regards to a replacement mount for my new rifle.

However, I cannot get an order placed.

Cannot reach them by phone.

And they haven't gotten back to me when I requested help.

Surely they must want to sell some of all the products they list, but at this point I can't find anyway to give them any of my money.

You could try another dealer- i.e. Airguns of Arizona and see if they carry Leapers products.

The C-mount can be a pain when it comes to adjustment screws that loosen--a common complaint with adjustable mounts.

You can deepen the rear hole on the rail of a Diana airgun with a shallow-angle-point drill bit to accept the stop pin of most regular airgun mounts. Home Depot has them--look for something on the order of a 143 degree point, as opposed to the much-pointier 'standard' drill bits that come in most sets.

Don't drill too deep, or you migh drill into the receiver. You don't need that much depth anyway--just a little more than the factory provides you.

Of course, that still doesn't solve the droop problem like the Pyramid adjustable rail does, and as do some of the 'fixed-droop' mounts on the market that will never come loose. For instance, BKL makes a couple of those, with different amounts of droop. Mac1 sells their own, or will droop an owner's mounts to give the same end-result.

I deepen the Diana rails with every tune here, and it's no big deal if you pay attention to what your're doing.

Well, I do thank you all for the information.

Even after many years of shooting center/rim fire arms, I find there is a lot to learn in this air rifle game.

I have not shot the new RWS for a week or so, as I am waiting for the new Leapers mount before shooting any more.

That RWS "C" mount just doesn't cut it!

The scope has moved, the screws came loose, in short a poor mount to sell with a new rifle.

Especially for someone new to the game.

One thing I also found to be a negative, was the quality of instructions for both the mount and the rifle.

There were limited at best, and surely not of a level to instruct new shooter/owners.

A parts diagram/break down would have gone a long ways towards using the limited instructions.

Especially when it comes to things like lubing, which I understand to be only needed after a lot of shooting. But then what and where info is greatly limited.

Like I said, thanks for the info and links, it helps a bunch.

By the way, I finally got the Leapers mount ordered by calling Pyramyd Air direct. I just couldn't get an order through on the net.

The mount should be here the 29th.
