I figured it'd be usefull.

I've used can's and plastic soldiers, and some big plates o' tree bark. Works satisfactionate.

Cans, plastic bottles (like from soda or laundry detergent), pieces of wood to test pellet penetration, a post sunk into the ground (see how long it takes, if ever, to destroy it with lead pellets). I also use an old steel 45 gallon barrel- but pellets only tend to dent it (from at least 20m- don't need pellets bouncing back at me!).

Here's one- a homemade target that looks pretty decent. It was posted by a Gene Adamos on another forum:

Another target I've played with: A used satellite dish- on low powered guns it's amusing to try and see where the pellets will ricochet (convex side is shot). Yikes!

Needless to say- this isn't a regular thing for me.

Here's an easy target which never wears out, just make a ring out of welding wire and press a piece of Plastersine on to it.

Hi Alstone those plasticine targets is a great idea!!

They make it very easy to see if you have hit the target, And you don't have to keep repainting them like the metal ones!!

I definitely will be making these type of targets!!!

I did have the comment that if you use Cookie Cutters for the shapes, you could have anything you liked, Cat's, Dogs, Rabbits ect.

I came across a couple more possible targets:

Brightly painted, used 12g caplets- depending on how they're mounted they could be induced to spin around, or clack into one another like windchimes, or maybe with a powerful gun just knock holes through them (I would think something over 20fpe might do this- anything under 15fpe certainly wouldn't- those caplets are thick!)

Paintballs- put in a small container- blast the container and watch the colors bleed out. The original idea I saw was to inject paint into table tennis ('ping-pong') balls or something similar to get the best "splatter" effect.

a few of my fav targets is those little plastic table things in pizza boxes, pop bottle lids, army men, clunks of dirt those little model paint bottles ect ect

Another one:

If you have a repeater, try doing a time challenge. You have to walk down a path and hit several targets. It includes spotting and reloading. Gives a bit more action. BE sure to come prepared. Mr. Green

I've found that shooting paintballs perched on golf tees is great fun.

.24 caliber (airsoft) paintballs. They're useless as ammunition but great as targets.

Spent shotgun shells (12 gauge stands up in the wind the best). This is why I belong to a gun club - for the free targets.

Spent 9mm pistol cases. Except you lay them down in front of a piece of white paper, open end towards you. The paper will tell you if you failed to get the whole pellet inside the 9mm case.

Aspirins. My son calls this "the war on drugs." Double-faced tape is good for holding these and other small things.

Toothpicks. The hardwood kind snap clean, while the bamboo kind shred into fibers. This is especially useful if your son has to build a bridge for physics class (due tomorrow morning) and you bought enough so you wouldn't run out after the stores close.

Animal crackers. You can go big game hunting anytime. Except the conservation officer in my house has declared them verboten, because she is afraid the crumbs might attract real critters. Besides, there is not much meat left anyway.

Mardi gras beads. Hang them and shoot from the bottom up.

A 16 oz. pop bottle on a stick. Give yourself more "points" for a hit in the center (no rotation). Or attempt to reload and shoot to reverse/stop rotation. Hitting it at all at 50 yards in a crosswind is satisfying.

Pop cans laying on their sides, stacked in a pyramid. Then you shoot out cans so as not to disturb the rest, a la "Jenga."
