I'm reading a lot of different predictions of the velocity gained by adding the 24in barrel to my 2250. 150, 100, 50, 30, 0, -20fps.
That's a big varience. Who's right? My 2250 and the 24in barrel are both in transit right now and it looks like there might not be much velocity gained by getting the longer barrel. |

That's a bit subjective of a question. While I don't actually own any of the 22xx series, I have a great interest in them and plan on buying one as soon as budget permits. I'm sure a few folks that actually have one of these ag's will post after me. But in the mean time I would like to point out a few factors when concidering FPS.
I use to fall for the FPS "game" until I came here. First of all you have to concider the manufacturer's advertising schemes. You will notice that most companies post a FPS rating and then in fine print state something like "up to" that number given. Lately the hype has all been centered around the usage of speicalty pellets such as the Gamo Raptors. Of course this will get higher FPS, but at what cost? Usually lower accuracy and less stopping power. Both of which are important if you're concidering this gun for hunting.
Other factors to concider would be ambient temperature. The colder it gets the less the C02 gas expands, therefore the less FPS you will achieve. What modification or tuning have you also done to the ag? Have you changed or modified the valve at all? Have you crowned the barrel yet? Have you tried every type of pellet you can get your hands on just to see which kind, type or brand your particular ag "likes"?
As you can see, it's not as simple of question as you thought. If you could give us more details as to what modifications you plan on doing, what type of shooting you plan on doing, ect. I'm sure the folks here will be able to give you the advice you seek. I also suggest reading the stickies and doing searches on the 22xx series. It's a very popular series and there's alot of information out there on them!
Btw... Welcome to Airgunhome.com

I just want to get the velocity up from 550 to 600 or so. I ordered a 24in barrel, believing the greater length would equal greater velocity. And I like a longer sight plane anyway. I don't like optical sights. I'm not going to be mucking about with G-whiz super pellets, just regular old weight 22 pellets.
MOA accuracy isn't that much of a priority for me either.
I already ordered the 2250 and the barrel, just want to know I didn't waste my time. My objective with the 2250 is to leave that advertised 550fps behind and break the 600fps barrier. No real reason, I suppose I don't like to leave things stock. I plan on using a stronger hammer spring to let more gas run.
I'm coming over to airguns from firearms. Airguns sound like a more enjoyable hobby with less uptight people involved. |

I have a Crooked Barn 2240 Featherweight that shoots 14.3grain Crosman Premiers @ 575fps pretty consistantly, bug accurate!

2RCHA, what do you think would happen if someone fit a 24in barrel to a stock 2240? |

How many shots do you get from one fill? |

The Crooked Barn Featherweight has a stock Crosman valve. With bulk fill, it gets a few hundred very consistant shots on a 3oz co2 bottle. |

I only get 4 shots or something. It leeks among the hole where the barrel enters the breech. |

The poppet is leaking. Either damage to the valve seat or the poppet seal. Both are fairly easy to correct.
Of course, when you use a delrin poppet, you can hand lap the seat to the poppet face for a very effective sealing surface. |

The 2250 came this morning, the barrel is still in transit. It's a nifty little 22, very handy. I hope the longer barrel will kick up the velocity. |

A stock 2250 w/ a 24" barrel should be running around 625-650fps without any other mod's, If you do anything else,,You should get yourself a Steel Breech, I would advise getting a Crosman Breech, as the other's may look nice, they just don't measure up spec wise,Crooked Barn being the worst, R.J. Machine doe's good work, but you may be waiting for week's to month's if you're in-between batche's. There are a few simple mod's you can do in minutes that'll add a couple of fps here and there, Another word of Advice,,Don't be stingy with your ammo, "Good Ammo Get's Good Result's, Great Ammo Get's Great Result's", My 2240/2289G like's to shoot H&N in lead, and Skenco's/Raptor's in L/F(which will also give you a good 20-25% boost in your velocity dept,.),,,,and don't forget to add a drop of Pell-Gun Oil to the top of every fresh cartridge you put in. Cheer's, Andy. |
