Yup- I got myself pretty good tonight.
The used Quest I got a couple weeks back crapped out- when it was cocked it wouldn't lock- so it was nothing more than a really hard to use accordion that didn't make any musical sounds.
So- I take it apart and find out how much of a complete monkey one of the previous owners was in trying to modify/adjust it (I will post another topic about this later- maybe I'll call it "Idiots and Airguns").
The Quest was missing the entire bear-trap assembly, had a couple of stripped screw holes, a bung-ed up end-cap, and was modified in a rather inappropriate manner for increased power output.
Anyways, after wrestling with the different pieces and my home-made spring compressor- I start to reassemble it for the third time- now I'm 99% sure I've got everything solved except the missing beartrap lever, I screw the stock on and then go so far ahead of myself I say "screw the sights and the other bits/pieces, I want to see if the thing will lock now" so I grab the barrel and the stock and give it a nice pull- and Ka-Bang- I'm biting my tongue and bleeding from my chin and my right jaw/ear hurts.
Seems I forget to put the rear stock screw in place that also hold the trigger guard on- apparently Chinese wood and smallish front stock screws aren't enough to keep it from separating! Big surprise. Teach me to be in a hurry.
Now I've still got a sore jaw and a cut chin 2 hours later. I've decided to hold off doing anything else with the gun until tomorrow sometime.
And this- less than two weeks after Robert Fischer of the Kermit Airgun Club beaned himself de-cocking a springer and ending up with a concussion and two black eyes! Think I might've paid some attention? Naw- that'd be too easy.
Oh well. So, my message of the day is: Don't be a 'tard like me- take your time and pay attention! |

Ouch sounds like that hurt quite a bit!!!
Though it could have been your eye and you would have ended up like my one eyed great uncle Chris!!!
That just another reason not to own a springer I guess!!
Hope the pain stops soon or you'll have to go to the docs and tell then what a banana you've been!!!

Photos? No- nothing much to see of me- cut was only about an inch long and 1/4" wide- but not very deep. The gun- well I'll be putting together some photos of it to show people what NOT to do when trying to improve a spring gun- but that may take a day or two before I get it posted up.
No doctors on this one- the jaw hurts quite a bit today- but nothing's broken apparently. Maybe I should stay away from springers for my own safety. |
