while poking around the site that sells the Shark brand pellets... turns out Shark also makes Co2 rifles.... never heard of em before... assuming they are Chinese... but i found it rather unnerving that none of them have a safety!! i am curious why they decided a safety wasnt needed... it couldnt add that much to production costs to include one.
anyone else find that odd and irresponsible?

| There are a couple of Chinese airguns with no safeties. Look at China lately- bad milk/milk products, bad plastics- "safety" is not part of their current vocabulary- not on guns or anything else it seems. |

A lot of rifles don't have safety. I also notice that when I'm at a firearms club, the rifles and pistols are always of safety. Why? Because you need to handle an Air or Firearm always like it is loaded.
I've also heard a some about safeties not working.
A lot of people I know agree with me when I say that safety isn't really that safe.
On those shark guns. Pretty ugly, but they could hold some novelty value, I think. They're also not very exspensive |

| i know that ultimately its up to the owner/shooter to practice safe gun handling, but to a certain extent i, for one, believe that the manufacturers have a certain amount of responsibility to include at least some measure of safeties on their products, at least the ones that "experts" arent likely to purchase. for instance, if a guy were to walk into my shop and want to purchase one of the racebikes on the floor, he would have to produce documentation that he is qualified to own such a machine... these bikes are not "user friendly". having a gun without a safety i would classify as the same, not for the average joe. |

It also depends on the situation.
My Hakim (military training pellet gun) doesn't have a safety. While I wasn't present for Egyptian Army training in 1955, I assume the discipline and strict range management in a military training setting would mitigate the lack of a safety. When the Hakim's loading tap is open, it blocks both the bore and transfer port - so procedure would also help.
My Daisy Model 99 BB gun doesn't have a safety, either. The gun was designed for training and competition with groups like 4H, Boy Scouts, etc. Here again, there would be a formal range setting. The entire barrel/magazine assembly can be removed without tools (that's how you load it), so a range officer can see at a glance that the gun has been "made safe." Again, procedure. |

| The guns are made in Argentina, a country not rife with litigation like the US! Rough but powerful and effective, the Shark line is a good value for the money. They make a switch barrel variant that is the BOMB! 177 to 45 cal, arrows, shotshells too! And they made/make a pistol that is STRONG! Don't know the current status of that gun, but I saw one in the display case at the shop. I am a regular at Sunshine, Jorge is my bro/mentor. He got me into tuning springers and he said I have a knack for it. He has been into airguns for almost 40 years! |

| ... a dual power spring gun at Sunshine Airguns one day. Don't think they make them any more. Big and heavy as an R1 but 2 stage cocking. Cock it once for low power and twice for high power. Interesting for sure! |
