I'm needing some input on the RWS Diana 300R. I bought one & haven't received it yet. I bought it online before I did any research on it. It seemed like a really good deal for such a nice looking gun, but I don't know about performance. I would appreciate any input. Thanks,Jim

Just so there's no confusion- I don't own a 300R and have never fired one.

That being said- it's a nice looking gun, and those that have bought it have said it looks and feels great.

Then, everything after that seems to go downhill. Apparently once the 7-shot magazine runs out, the gun will dry-fire- extremely bad for a springer and will eventually cause something to break- so you have to be constantly aware of how many shots are in it (inconvenient). Some people have reported that even out the the box, the 300R is 'twangy' and has a noisy action- although apparently this problem starts to go away once the gun has been broken in a bit (i.e. 3-400 shots). Next, a lot of people say the breech seal is inclined to blow out on this gun as well.

So- how accurate is it for you? At 8lbs and 925fps (.177 version) it sounds reasonable.

PyramydAir had them on "closeout" recently with a "Call for Price" which indicates to me that it's either being discontinued or that PyramydAir no longer wants to carry it unless it is by specific request from a buyer. Either way, a gun that's discontinued after less than 5 years on the market or only for sale "by request" is probably not a good sign.

But- forget all that for a minute:

Do you like it?
Is it working well with no problems?
Do you like to "tinker" and "tweak" your own guns?
Did you get a really good deal on it?

If you can answer "yes" to all the above- who cares what the prevailing opinion is on it- it may be a fine gun that's a bit 'fussy'. If you can deal with that- it may be a great gun for you-but maybe not for someone trying to win the national target-shooting championship or for someone who wants to pick it up, throw it around, put it in a closet and forget about it for a year or two and then pull it out and expect it to operate like new.

But I'd be lying.
