It seems to me that you have a lot of problems with your Airguns. A major jam, and rust in the barrel!! |

How much rust are we talking about?
And...Is the barrel on something "rare" that MUST be preserved?
IF it were a "run of the mill" airgun such as a Crosman product, the barrels can be had for a reasonable price...so the risk is low if you destroy it trying to clean it. Not so if it's on say...a Lukens.
If it's a low risk scenario, there are any number of "rust busters" in the automotive bodywork isle of the hardware store. These are "usually" some formulation of phosphoric acid, and will eat and/or loosen the rust even in extreme cases.
I've used them on sheet steel with success, they don't SEEM to attack the clean steel, but no guarantees. You will want to clean (traditionally), dry and oil the barrel immediately afterward.
Take note....Will likely remove any bluing it comes in contact with as well as destroy seals that get in the way. |

yeah, but only just recently. But my guess is that the jam was due to minor rust & a major jackass . The rust isn't much, just a thin dark brown discoloration.
Gippeto, the gun isnt rare, but where I am, parts availability can sometimes be an issue/PITA, so I'm just trying to avoid it beforehand. I won't be using any highly caustic/acidic products inside the rifle barrel, due to possibility of an uneven increase in bore diameter throughout the length of the barrel resulting in a loss of power/speed/accuracy.
BTW, would you believe the idiot fired 6 shots int the blocked tube I got them all out with a 3/32 drill bit on 12" extension. The only reason i could drill safely is cuz it's a SB(thank god) |
