Hi All,

I'm trying to decide between these two scopes. I read a lot of good reviews on both of them. The Hawke (model 14225) is a little bit less expensive and has an etched glass reticle (although the reticle may not be as thin as one would like for target shooting). I'm a bit puzzled why the Nikon has 1/2 instead of 1/4 MOA windage and elevation adjustments, but the reviews have been especially good. It's too bad that neither Pyramyd nor Airgun Depot carry the Nikon. If you know of any store that has better prices on the Nikon please let me know.

I'm doing mainly indoor target shooting from 10-20 yards using a Beeman R8 and an FWB 124. Please let me know which scope you'd recommend.

Thanks for your help!

Best wishes,
John

Nikon did a terrible job of promoting their hunting optics- a few years ago they would not allow anyone to carry the scope line unless they also carried their other varieties of optics- i.e. camera lenses and the like. As you can imagine, "Bob's Hunting Store" or "xxxx Airgun store" didn't have alot of use for camera lenses.

As a result, few shooting suppliers had access to Nikon scopes and sales of them were relatively small- I have never heard of anyone with one on an airgun. My point here is that you may be hard pressed to find any information directly comparing a Nikon to a Hawke (Hawke has promoted itself as an airgun line for a number of years).

Do you have links to the two specific scopes you are comparing?

Thanks for the info. It's good to know why the Nikon EFR isn't stocked by places like Pyramyd; I was afraid that it was because of some airgun-related issues. I just found out that Airguns of Arizona carries the Nikon EFR.

Please find below links to the Nikon and Hawke scopes that I'm considering:

Those being the choices, I would suggest trying the Nikon- any of the Hawke stuff below $200.00 is a bit debatable (the 'Airmax' line they were selling a few years ago failed springers 50% of the time- but I can't say if this is still the case).
