A friend of mine turned up recently with an old airgun he wanted refurbishing and fitted with a silencer, he had no idea what make it was and I was not sure.
So here are the pictures I think it may be a 1970s Relum ? It is marked LG527 Made in Hungary with a serial of 19963, the scope is a clue but there again I don’t know whether it came with the rifle or was added later?
Although it has some rusty bit’s the main working parts seem to be in good nick with no play anywhere.

It's probably a Relum.... Most knowledgeable guy I know RE old airguns is Brent "lauchlin" on the CAF.... I would suggest asking him....

I'll see if I can get hold of him.

| I believe Relum was the only brand of Hungarian-made airguns for years. The barrel block screw lock is also consistent with what they used on all the Relums I've ever seen (3-4 'different' models- they really weren't all that different up-close). This one appears to have an overall better-quality stock than most, however. |

From what I have found out here (UK) overnight is that it is a second generation FEG, (Hungarian company who made them for Relum). So is most probably a FEG LG527 with Zephyr/Taurus telly breakbarrel stock, made around the mid sixtys.
Everdently not worth much but it will make a nice project.

Now that I know what I’m dealing with it’s time to strip the gun down, the first thing noticeable is the lack of any lubrication whatsoever, but surprisingly very little wear on most of the moving parts.
The worst part was the piston this had a combination seal made out of a nylon centre encased in a leather cup, these were held in place by a retaining pin riveted in to the piston head, these two parts had separated and it appears that the leather part just remained at the breach end of the compression tube and only the nylon part moved up and down with the piston, also the retaining pin had been hitting the face of the compression tube port, and thus reducing the hole diameter. With all these problems I was surprised that it produced 10flb using a .22 16g AA Field pellet.
So the seal was the first thing to sort out and the chances of getting a direct replacement were nil, after having a dig around in my bit box I found a part used AA TX 200 seal the correct diameter, so I machined the original nylon seal centre to match the taper in the AA seal, and pressed the seal on to the piston head. I also used a long drill to clear the burr on the compression tube port.

| I'm guessing that shop must have bought out all Muller's stock when he shut down in the early 80's- it's always a bit of a surprise when 30+ year-old factory parts can be found. |

I'm glad I found a sorce of Relum parts as my fix for a piston seal was not satifactory, so I have ordered the correct one from Protec.
When I spoke to the guy there I asked if he did export to north america and he said that he did, so it looks like a good sorce for Relum parts.

Evidently there was a spring guide missing, so I made a new one but it looks like I will need to replace the springs, they are a bit bent and a bit missing off the large one.
The new seal should be here later today it should make a lot of difference.

That’s right Rob one inside the other, which I was a bit surprised to find in a Relum, but evidently this gun isn’t it’s a Taurus LS 527 made for them by Hungarian company FEG around the mid sixty’s
I had a Relum Tornado around that time and it was nothing like the quality of this one.
I have sorted the barrel out today run plenty of patches through it and straightened it out a bit. (It was slightly bent upwards)I have put the original springs in until the new ones arrive, also put the correct piston seal in slapped the scope on and gave it a trial on the range. After zeroing in the scope I was quite surprised to be getting ¾” groupings at 25m, this was with the original scope which is only a 2x magnification, I still have to sort out the trigger and fit a silencer I know most of the noise comes from the mechanics of a Springer but it will help.
